True to this, not new to this 🫶🏾

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about my younger self: the pre-braces little Arielle with a beautiful front-yard garden who loved to sing and wanted to write books & create her own clothing line. The one who saw a problem and immediately wanted to take steps to fix it. She LOVED this beautiful planet, and loved imagining what it would be like to travel the world and see all of its beauty & wonder.

This video is from 4th grade when I collected almost 1,000 hats, scarves, gloves, and socks for all the elementary schools in my district because I hated seeing kids walking to school and freezing in the winter. My hometown has since institutionalized this effort with an annual coat drive for elementary school students. That year, I was selected as one of the area’s “13 Kids Who Care” and the producers learned that I’d just advocated for my school to start celebrating Earth Day by planting trees.

Anyone can be an agent for change. We all just have to take an extra moment to listen and observe the world around us.

Times are bleak, but I’m so inspired by the actions of people who continue to care. I’m inspired by my younger self. I can’t let her down. by @ariellevking

📚🎙👩🏾‍💻🌳📹🌍🎧

I get lots of questions about where to start to learn more about environmental justice and environmental racism, so I’ve put together a little list of some books, webinars, podcasts, articles, and other resources. The link to the Google doc is in my bio ✨

This was a very random project I did in the middle of the night a few days ago so it is far from complete. I’ll be updating it regularly as I come across more useful information, and recall sources that I’ve learned from over the years.

Looking forward to continuing to tear down ivory towers 💗education is for everyone!

Also all the books are linked to sites that are not Amazon on purpose. If you can find them at a local bookstore, that’s great too!

Some moments from NY Climate Week 2026 💚

I had the honor of coordinating the 4th annual Green Jobs Pavilion NYC for @greenjobsboard after years of cheering on Kristy & Usman as they built this platform and phenomenal event.

This year’s pavilion brought together over 700 job seekers, employers, and people interested in strengthening their skills within the green workforce. We hosted a private roundtable on the future of green jobs, plus happy hours and after-parties with incredible partners during the 3 full days of programming @projectfarmhouse.nyc.

I loved reuniting with so many friends and colleagues, hearing insights from brilliant minds across the environmental sector, and working alongside so many of my faves at pavilion & the other events I got to attend this week.

As I always say, the climate sector is only as sterile, homogeneous, and boring as we allow it to be. NY Climate Week always feels like a reminder of what’s possible when we collaborate more intentionally. I’m on a lifelong quest to make climate action accessible and irresistible to everyone, and I invite others to join me in doing so! Now more than ever, we need everyone to get involved.

Grateful for continued opportunities to infuse joy, curiosity, and impact-driven fun into this work ⭐️ taken in New York, New York by @ariellevking

Moments from the 12th annual @ceejhaction symposium ⭐️

3 virtual days, followed by 3 in-person days featuring special events including a cultural night, special breakfasts honoring trailblazers in the mid-Atlantic region, and an Environmental Justice Awards ceremony.

I was co-coordinador of this momentous event & also had the pleasure of joining EJ pioneer Vernice Miller Travis for an intergenerational plenary discussion on the future of democracy, as well as interviewing Dr. Sacoby Wilson & Mustafa Santiago Ali, the hosts of the “Shack and Mu Show”, on the role of art and storytelling in advancing movements.

Grateful for the opportunity & the chance to connect with colleagues and comrades old and new.

Special thank you to the event’s Social Media Correspondent Extraordinaire @toresaur & my favorite photographer/videographers @lessasworld & @therealherphero 💚 taken in Bowie State University by @ariellevking

I’m giving 2 winners free virtual tickets to this year’s @ceejhaction EJ symposium! Details below for entry~

One of the main goals of the Environmental Justice movement is to right historical wrongs that make low-income communities and communities of color more vulnerable, politically overlooked, deprioritized, and therefore susceptible to the worst parts of the climate catastrophe.

Baby’s first time playing in indigo 🌀

Remember, the most sustainable clothing you can wear = the clothes you already own.

Shoutout to @africanfertilitygoddess of @sola.market for formally introducing me to this practice last weekend. I’ve become especially interested in spending time with indigo since reading Imani Perry’s “Black in Blue: How a Color Tells the Story of my People” early last year. With no direct connection to the Gullah Geechee part of my heritage, this felt sacred.

Grateful for the brilliant, creative, beautiful, and very cool community I’m continuing to build in NYC 🦋 by @ariellevking

Climate change is public health emergency.

Rising tempratures across the country pose a threat to people, ecosystems, and the economy through impacts on public health, worker productivity, built infrastructure, agriculture, and energy systems. Extreme heat also interacts with other climate hazards, which amplify risks across sectors.

Recent studies have found that extreme heat also can affect our cardiovascular systems, neurological systems, women’s reproductive systems, and even male fertility.

New Yorkers, head to http://healthcareeducationproject.org/essentialplan to learn about healthcare coverage options.
