I threw together a quick Soup of the Week on Sunday and forgot to post it! 🤦‍♀️ Chicken and rice with almost everything from the freezer, and the canned chicken. I was going to a meeting at supper time so I dumped everything in the Instant Pot and hoped for the best. It ended up done before I left and I was able to dish up a bowl for Robert before I walked out the door, and it turned out amazing. by @arielmanx

Happy Official Gotcha Day to the kitty boys! We brought them home from Pintler Pets 8 years ago today! They are still full of energy despite these pictures 😅 full of personality, and full of love. Jonesy has been sick with an upper respiratory infection and a little bit of asthma, and lost a little weight as a result, but he's well on the mend and will soon be rotund like Spooter again.

They are the very best boys and we love them so much! 😻😻 by @arielmanx

Absentee ballots are going out in Montana TODAY! Keep an eye on your mailboxes.

These voter guides should be in your mailbox soon too, if you haven't gotten them already! Don't throw these away, the state and BSB guides designed to help you understand the ballot initiatives. The guide from Catalyst summarizes answers candidates gave to their survey.

Butte area friends!

If you missed the opportunity to meet Alani Bankhead @alani4mt when Indivisible had our meet-and-greet with her in September, you have another chance! Thanks one of my other organizations, Butte Strong Neighborhood Watch, you can meet her Monday, October 12, at 6:30 PM at Unity Church (basement room). In addition to getting to talk to Alani face-to-face, there will be a potluck dinner - if you're able, bring a dish to share!

If Monday night doesn't work for you, she will also be the the guest at the BSB Burros lunch on October 22 - I'll make another reminder post about that as we get closer.

Me talking here: Alani is the real deal. If you take the opportunity to meet her and talk to her in person, you'll see that immediately. We asked her TOUGH questions at the Indivisible event and she didn't shy away from anything. I really urge y'all to attend. by @arielmanx

Soup of the Week this week had me back in my element, winging it! I'm calling this Italian lentil soup. I know I've done a lentil soup from Giada de Laurentiis before, so this may have been close to that, I haven't dug out the cookbook to check. Basically mirepox (onion, celery, carrot), garlic, Italian seasonings, salt and pepper, a pound of lentils, a can of petite diced tomatoes, and veggie broth. This bag of lentils had been in the cupboard for...a while, so I did soak them for about an hour before cooking, but I think I could've gotten away without that and just cooked it a few minutes longer. It was superb. 🤌😘 A little Parmesan cheese and some garlic toast for dipping made it perfect. And it made 8 hearty servings! Plus while I was chopping veggies, I chopped more onions, celery, and carrots for the freezer, so Future Connie has an easier time making soup in a hurry.

I'm behind on sharing things because of who I am as a person. Man, it's hard to share my joy sometimes when everything is the way it is. Trying to get back on my bullshit though.

Soup of the Week last week was a semi-homemade gumbo! I picked up this frozen gumbo mix a while back. It's veggies, rice, and seasonings, and all you had to do was add 3 cups of water and cook. I fried up some smoked turkey sausage and added that, plus an extra cup of water. I made corn muffins too, and the whole thing was ready in half a hour, which was about all the energy I had in me after being sick.

It was pretty good! I've never made gumbo fully from scratch, so this was pretty comparable to other mixes I've used. Two minor complaints:

One: whoo boy it was salty. I'm glad I stuck with water instead of broth.

Two: four servings, my ass! Even with the addition of meat and an extra cup of water, we barely got 3 bowls out of this. If I buy this again I'll get two bags.

Last week I wrote postcards to 20 folks in North Carolina, a battleground state for flipping the Senate, urging them to register to vote. They're maybe arriving there now. If 19 of them go right into the trash, that's OK. But if just one of them finally decides, "...you know what, maybe I should" because of a handwritten note from a stranger, you bet it's worth it. Definitely better than any PAC/dark money flyer they'll get in the mail!

And for the record? Even if they don't vote the way I wish they would? It's still a victory to get more people voting. 🗳 by @arielmanx

Happiest of birthdays to my sweet baboo. 🥰 Weekday birthdays mean Stouffers lasagna and Safeway bakery cake; I'll cook something really good this weekend for a homemade birthday. We also watched the birthday boy's choice of movie, Coyote vs. ACME, which was super cute. 28 years of doing birthdays together! by @arielmanx
