POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It wouldn’t be a proper Spud Fest without homegrown heroes lightin’ up the spud stage, and this year will be no exception! Fresh off a big tour across the pond, @theburninghellband are speedin’ straight to Souris for Spud VII! 🔥🥔🥔🔥

The Burning Hell is the ongoing musical project of songwriter Mathias Kom and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Sharratt, often including additional collaborators. Their narrative-driven songs are packed with an abundance of literary, historical, and pop-cultural subjects, incorporating a frequent fixation on apocalypse and ruin into work that celebrates participation in a mutually created, ever surprising, and even occasionally beautiful world.

Based in the woods of rural Prince Edward Island, The Burning Hell emphasizes presence and connection, affirming a commitment to the political power of sharing music. ‘Ghost Palace,’ their newest album, was released on March 7, 2025 on You've Changed Records in North America and BB*Island everywhere else.

Last call for new potato presale passes, tots and taters! The full lineup is comin’ atcha tomorrow 😏🥔 taken in Souris, Prince Edward Island by @arielsharratt

Surprise!
I’ve turned @arielsharratt ‘s beautiful hand-painted music video into a video game!!

Introducing:

Living In A Minor Key: The Video: The game

Can you defeat the monsters of your unconscious??

The first person to send me a screen cap of the game end screen with 3/3 bosses killed gets a free copy of the LP!

(It runs in a browser on a computer, but sadly not on a phone… it’s too big for a phone browser’s memory. Wah wah.)

Link in my linktree.

And for those who just like to watch other people play games, enjoy this video play-through.

Tada! A new fully hand-painted animated music video by Ariel Sharratt!

This song is about music’s amazing ability to make you feel sad.

Despite the plethora of things to get depressed about these days, sometimes I still need musical catalyst to fully feel what I’m thinking.

—————————
I’ve been living in the minor key
Something bout that dropped third, takes away the awkward,
Guess it is the place for me,
Living in a minor key.

Life is deeper in the minor key,
When I need to go below ground,
Wanna hear that sad sound,
Mother of melancholy,
Living in a minor key.

How are you?
How are you?
It’s unravelling you.

I was born into a minor key,
There’s a sort of magic living in the tragic,
Set a lonely spirit free,
Living in a minor key.

How are you?
How are you?
It’s unravelling you.
Travelling through.
Travelling through.
How are you?
How are you?
Travelling through.
Travelling through. by @arielsharratt

I gave all my best @sappyfest photos to @theburninghellband for a post, except this shot of one of Andrew Maize’s incredible kites.

It’s hard to describe how much I love Sappy, and this year was an all-timer. I feel so very very lucky to have made so many close friends through attending, and I’m always thrilled to exist in that communal space with so many cool artists that I don’t really know very well yet. Every year I come home with new favourite bands (this year @mightymightymums ) and newly excited by someone’s art practice, outfits, jokes, joy, and generosity. Casual nods turn into acquaintances turn into friends turn into trusted collaborators, and (for a while) it soothes the endless anxiety and sadness of living in the world right now. Everything feels very possible, and even likely.

Thank you to @instagraemepatterson @lou_birrd and @stevenlambke for helming the ship this year. Don’t get too burnt out — we all need it so much. Keep it up! by @arielsharratt

On July 2, we’ll be hosting a little show for the very lovely @jake_nicoll_studio songwriter and producer extraordinaire all the way from St. John’s, Newfoundland. Gorgeous humans @carliehowell_is_carliehowell and @owdav will also play some songs. Charming! Magical!

If it’s nice, it will be in the garden… bring your bug spray! Music will be around 7ish.

You’re invited! I’d love to see you!

If you need the address, send me a message. Bring a drink you like, a chair or blanket if you can, and a bit of 💵 for the 🎶🎩 by @arielsharratt

Loads of load outs, and most of the time we remembered to take a picture, and it only rained once.

Tonight is the last night of the 👻🏰 Euro Tour, and it’s been an incredible and amazing thing. We will be celebrating the final night at @knusthamburg with a @bbislandmusic label showcase night with @swearingatmotorists @thesoundofmoney_music

Thank you so much to all of the beautiful people who came to these shows, sang with us, told us stories and jokes, fed us, played with us, cared for us, and signed up for our zine 🤓 It was a beautiful month, and we feel very grateful for you.

Thanks to our bandmates @jimmie_kilpatrick and @fuss_peddle for joining us on this outing. We’ll be on the road again with them both in Canada through the summer, and then over to the UK at the end of August with Maria and @jon_mckiel_ opening the shows and rounding out the band on 🥁 taken in The Whole Wide World by @arielsharratt
