Not all photos have to be professional, something I’m coming to terms with… Here’s some photos from over the summer! In approximate order:
1. Fired Mike Roche’s wood kiln with the Feet of Clay studio
2. Some final photos of the last works I made during my internship at Community Kiln, along with some videos of my working
3. Turtle in the studio
4. A studio visit with Hollis Engley
5. A photo of my first wood fired piece that I recently gifted away to a friend in exchange for making pedestals for me
6. I made some fish linocuts for fun
7. I got gifted some old clay magazines from David Lapierre while I TA’d for him, and had a blast collecting pots I loved for inspiration going into this semester by @ariesfiredpot

We have our first student intro of the semester, starting with one of our clay 4 change reps Aries! @ariesfiredpot 🌟

Aries Green (they/them) is a junior in ceramics, and a Clay 4 Change rep. Look out for the bowl making day coming up in October! They are from Michigan, and their most recent works call on the Great Lakes, and what they symbolize to them. They are looking forward to NCECA in Detroit this year! Over the summer they were an intern at Community Kiln in Framingham, now turned studio assistant. They also had the pleasure of attending the New England Wood Firing Conference. They participated in two wood firings, one with Micah Thanhauser (Merry Farm Pottery), and another with Mike Roche. They’re stoked about atmospheric firings, and all things fish! taken in Massachusetts College of Art and Design by @ariesfiredpot

The kiln is now cooling! I cannot wait to see what my pots look like, everything is a test, especially since this is my first wood firing! I’m forever grateful for Hollis who generously encouraged me to ask Micah about getting pots in the stack. This was an incredible learning experience and definitely will be the highlight of my summer. My favorite part was during my firing shift with Hollis, when his brother asked Micah if he could fire his cannon and everyone thought he was joking. He was not… I can’t imagine a better way to have spent the holiday weekend.

This week I start my first wheel throwing class ever! Funny since I’ve been throwing since high school… I’ll also be assisting, and getting more experience as a teaching assistant. More to come about my experience at the new england wood firing conference! taken in Merry Farm Pottery by @ariesfiredpot

I progress update from the studios! Didn’t get a chance to snap a photo of my porcelain pieces… Waiting on glaze test tiles for the urns… More fish to come, working on each addition to the series having a new design element introduced, need to start incorporating additive sculptural elements to the work… hm…
In other news, I finally made a website! it’s a rough draft at the moment, but most relevant information is there. something to check off the to do list, next business cards!
Excited to see everyone at the new england wood firing conference coming up in a few weeks 😊 taken in HCA Ceramics by @ariesfiredpot
