This technique shaped the visual world of Lilo & Stitch and Armand Serrano’s work for years to come. 🤯

Visual development artist and environment designer, Armand Serrano, whose work spans Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia, Raya and the Last Dragon, Marvel’s What If…?, Angel’s David, Hotel Transylvania, Big Hero 6, and Netflix’s Swapped, says the visual style and pencil technique used to create Lilo and Stitch made a lasting impact on his creative approach to design.

Working under production designer Paul Felix, Serrano was introduced to an entirely new visual language: using *pencil to mimic watercolor, a distinctive aesthetic choice that reflected and further boosted the deep cultural significance of water in Hawaii. 🌊🏝

That experience became part of his artistic DNA, influencing the way he approaches visual development, digital art and even 3D environments long after the film. Returning to traditional methods and pushing the boundaries of our tools trains the eye, shape and bend our minds and teach us how to think like a true designer. by @armand_serrano

Instead, each week includes a keynote lecture, interactive discussions, assignments, and live demos shaped around the needs of the group.

@thedavidmovieofficial is now the #1 movie on @netflix! 🎉 Here are a few more pieces of concept art I created for the film. Looking back, my version of Goliath here feels a bit like a hobbit! 😂 One of my early ideas was for the armor bearer to carry Goliath’s massive shield like a backpack, creating a stronger and more distinctive silhouette. Included here are also some of my early art direction explorations for Philistine uniforms, vegetation, and village architecture as we worked to define the look and culture of their world.
