I’m very excited to be a part of this panel discussion happening on Friday at the @lightboxexpo in Pasadena! The design team on this film was incredible and the early design phase was a unique experience I’ll cherish forever.

John Burton will be leading a very special discussion with tons of visuals, so if you happen to be at Lightbox this week, I hope to see you there!

Looking forward to these meetups next weekend at Lightbox Expo! Industry Lighthouse (@industry_lighthouse) is a growing network of Christians interested in visual arts, animation, and the entertainment industry. It was started by Disney veteran @armand_serrano over Discord and Zoom and we have in-person meetups at Lightbox Expo and other conventions. I have found it to be an encouraging and often creatively inspiring group!

If you're at @lightboxexpo this year, feel free to stop by! I plan to be at the Friday and Saturday events. Or if you'd like info about the Discord group online, you can comment or private message me.

This technique shaped the visual world of Lilo & Stitch and Armand Serrano’s work for years to come. 🤯

⚠️CORRECTION: Paul Felix used PENCIL to MIMIC WATERCOLOR🌊🎨

Visual development artist and environment designer, Armand Serrano, whose work spans Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia, Raya and the Last Dragon, Marvel’s What If…?, Angel’s David, Hotel Transylvania, Big Hero 6, and Netflix’s Swapped, says the visual style and pencil technique used to create Lilo and Stitch made a lasting impact on his creative approach to design.

Working under production designer Paul Felix, Serrano was introduced to an entirely new visual language: using *pencil to mimic watercolor, a distinctive aesthetic choice that reflected and further boosted the deep cultural significance of water in Hawaii. 🌊🏝

That experience became part of his artistic DNA, influencing the way he approaches visual development, digital art and even 3D environments long after the film. Returning to traditional methods and pushing the boundaries of our tools trains the eye, shape and bend our minds and teach us how to think like a true designer.

Peace. 🧡

I've been a bit busy over the last little while, so I'm needing to catch up on a bit of fan art for some recent releases!

So I thought the best place to start would be @thedavidmovieofficial. 😊✨️

I remember watching some behind the scenes videos on the development of this film AGES ago (specifically the one on the film's concept art) and being just blown away by the amount of care and detail that was going into making this film even in the early stages - from the amount of meticulously researched historical details to the gorgeous designs from so many top-tier artists - let's just say it was so exciting to see the story of David being shared in this beautiful new way! 🌻

As an animation lover, my heart is full. As a Christian...wow...I am just seriously so excited to see so many incredible centred films and God-celebrating film-makers rising up recently! 🥹🥹🥹

And now that this film is out I have to say it did not disappoint! 🥹 It is so lovely! And I can't wait for the next generation to get to have all these new, beautiful movies to grow up on! 👏✨️

Let's just say, we're in exciting times. 💛
