I take my title as a music educator quite literally. I educate young musicians about music - but not just ONE style of music that was written eons ago. I educate them about musical styles that are modern, culturally relevant, and from cultures outside of their own. ✨ After these students from the Metropolitan Nashville Summer Camp performed this piece, a mother who happened to be Jamaican came up to me and expressed her gratitude for writing Soul Dance. She also said she could imagine lyrics within the melody and then proceeded to sing a vocal part that she made up in just a few minutes. 🤯 That was so beautiful and reminded me why I do what I do.
