This October, we mark 25 years since British Armed Forces first deployed to Afghanistan. As the Army’s national charity, we recognise their service, remember the sacrifice, and reflect on the lasting legacy of a campaign that affected thousands of military personnel, and their families, in the UK and overseas.

Although military operations have ended, the impact of the Afghanistan conflict continues to be felt by veterans and families today, and the ABF is and will remain steadfast in its support for all of those who are in hardship or need.

Today we're sharing Mark's story. Mark was shot in the neck while serving in Afghanistan, leaving him with devastating injuries. Despite the predictions of his doctors, Mark was determined to overcome his injuries and learn to walk again. Today, Mark has achieved his goal of walking again, and is a passionate fundraiser for our charity.

Today is #WorldFoodDay 🍽️

Last year, we awarded £177,500 to the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League (RCEL), helping provide two meals a day for veterans and widows living in poverty across 23 Commonwealth nations.

One of those veterans is Corporal Frank Masiyano, from Malawi, who served with the King's African Rifles during the Malayan Emergency. Today, our grant helps Frank buy food and maintain his quality of life in later years.

Together, we're ensuring veterans across the Commonwealth can live with dignity and security.

For some injured veterans and wounded service personnel, leaving the Army or adapting to life after injury can lead to feelings of loneliness, isolation, and a loss of camaraderie.

To help address these challenges, our charity has awarded a grant of £85,000 to The Not Forgotten.

Our funding will contribute towards a varied programme of events and activities, including sporting challenges, respite breaks and much more.

At the ABF, we ensure that elderly veterans can access the support they need in later life through both individual grants and funding partner charities.

One of the charities we support is Broughton House, which provides accommodation, care and support for elderly veterans who can no longer live independently.

Thanks to our recent grant of £120,000, Broughton House will continue to provide residential care and nursing to elderly veterans.

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay 💚

Mental wellbeing is vital for soldiers, veterans and their families to live healthy, fulfilling lives.

That's why the ABF is proud to support a wide range of organisations delivering life-changing mental health and wellbeing services across the Army family. In the last financial year alone, we funded 94 specialist partner charities, the majority of which provide support that helps improve mental health, wellbeing, resilience and social connection.

A huge well done to everyone who took part in the first-ever 457 Challenge at Lyneham! 💪

More than 500 soldiers braved the rain, wind and chilly conditions to take on the challenge, all in support of the ABF.

Despite the weather, morale remained high throughout the day, with participants pushing themselves while helping to raise hundreds of pounds for soldiers, veterans and their families.

From those who found it "not that bad actually" to others who described it as "horrendous", it's safe to say the challenge tested everyone differently! One participant even donated an extra £10 for a two-minute breather... proving there's always a way to support the Army family. 😉

If you'd like to take part in 457 Challenge, head over to our link in bio for more details.
