Here in Sacramento, we are lucky to live so close to the American and Sacramento Rivers, both of which are relaxing spots to hang out at during late summer heat waves. We spoke with @sacramentofire and @metrofireofsacramento about the best water safety tips when recreating on the river.

🛟Always wear a life jacket
👀Ensure children wear life jackets and always keep an eye on them when they are playing in or near the water
🛶Only use approved watercraft and flotation devices
🌊Stay alert of your surroundings as the current and river topography changes

There are seven Kids Don’t Float life jacket stations along the American River Parkway that provide free life jackets for public use.

Visit www.ARPF.org/Visit for a complete list of life jacket stations and beach-accessible parks to visit before the summer ends! taken in American River Parkway, Sacramento by @arpfsac

Over the past eighteen months, the ARPF Board of Directors has been meeting to develop our Strategic Plan for the next few years. The Board realized that to meet our mission, the Foundation had to do something bold to generate awareness of the American River Parkway.

In our latest survey from March 2026, only 13% of residents within the region knew the Parkway existed. With that in mind, the Board chose to focus on three main initiatives:

☕Improving the Visitor Experience: Engaging the community to experience the Parkway first-hand and developing opportunities for economic development.

🦦Education: Continuing our partnership with the Sacramento County Office of Education to work with Title 1 schools, developing new partnerships with local tribal leaders, and engaging the nonprofit community to experience the Parkway.

🌱Restoration and Fire Fuels Reduction: Addressing highly flammable materials while restoring land to a noninvasive species landscape and working with partner agencies on executing the Community Wildfire Prevention program.

The Parkway Foundation will no longer manage the Invasive Plant program on behalf of the Sacramento County Regional Parks.

Stay tuned for additional updates on all of our programs! by @arpfsac

Make the most of the weather cooling down and explore the trails at Sutter’s Landing River Access this weekend 🥾🍁🦭

Sutter’s Landing River Access is located just minutes from Midtown Sacramento. In addition to trails, this river access park also has a dog park, skate park, basketball court, and plenty of free parking.

🥾1-2 miles: For a quick hike perfect for the whole family, start at Sutter’s Landing, choose between either the paved or unpaved trail, trek out to the bridge, then turn around and trek back.

🥾4 miles: If that route seems too short, hike past the bridge then head onto the next unpaved trail leading to Paradise Beach before trekking back.

🦭 Both routes offer endless river views, sightings of sea lions swimming up from the Sacramento River and snacking on fish, and the beauty of our local riparian forest awash in autumnal hues.

There is so much to experience on the American River Parkway this fall, so hit the trails and happy exploring! taken in Sutter's Landing River Access by @arpfsac

UPDATE: Thanks to your generous donations, we have reached our goal number of fishing poles! Thank you so much!

Do you have a fishing pole or two that you don't use anymore? We are looking for fishing pole donations for our upcoming Parkway CONNECT activities!

Our Parkway CONNECT program expands access to the American River Parkway by offering opportunities for more people to discover and enjoy this beautiful natural resource in so many of our backyards. We are partnering with Sisters of Nia this October on a father-daughter fishing day, and we need 10 more fishing poles so that everyone can experience the joy of recreating on the Parkway🎣

DM us here or email our Education Manager Jackie at jhadley@arpf.org if you have fishing poles you'd like to donate! by @arpfsac
