Woohoo!! Project H2O has received a 2026 SMANA Social Marketing* Award (Innovation) 👏 👏 👏

Launched in March 2024, this arts initiative brings people together through creativity to explore our relationship with water and inspire collective stewardship.

From art and storytelling to research, publication, exhibition, and community conversations, we explore water’s connections to culture, identity, gender, health, livelihoods, and our shared future.

This award belongs to all our generous artists, collaborators, community partners and supporters! A HUGE THANK YOU for bringing Project H2O to life and CONGRATULATIONS!

And the work continues...

Our online exhibition is still live, with select artworks available for purchase. Proceeds support Bridge H2OPE’s efforts to expand access to clean water in underserved communities in Ethiopia.

💧 Explore, support, and collaborate. Link in bio.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Social Marketing Association of North America (SMANA) and the award reviewers for this recognition, and to everyone helping us tell the many stories of water through the arts! 🙏

Special shout-out to our founder and project lead Nil Navaie, and collaborating artists Mentwab Easwaran, Rachel Singel, Erin Power, Robert Matejcek, Fabio Sassi, Sophie Dia Pegrum, Dr. Victorica Guadalupe, Maria Coletsis, Marcela Montalvan, and Valeria Del Vacchio, among many others!!!

*Just to clarify: Social marketing is about inspiring voluntary behavior change and creating positive social impact; not to be confused with social media marketing;)

In a divided, uncertain world, art helps us look beyond assumptions, recognize our shared humanity, and find common ground.

On October 8, artists, community members, academic, and peacebuilding and development professionals working at local and global levels gathered at InterAction in Washington, DC, for the Resilience & Reverberation: Cohort III Open House, “From Art to Action: The Power of Community.”

Together with guest speaker Nick Zuroski of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, Cohort III artist and art therapist Malik Greene, and spoken-word poet Bertha Nibigira, we explored how art, storytelling, and creative reflection can deepen empathy, challenge assumptions, and bring people together across differences.

🙏 A heartfelt THANK YOU to all participating artists, InterAction, and community members who joined us and helped make this gathering meaningful.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Take a breath. 🧡

Give yourself permission to pause, reflect, and explore the arts as a way to express yourself, release emotions, or reconnect with the present moment.

Pick up a pencil, move to a rhythm, write a few words, sing, or simply notice the beauty around you. Let curiosity guide you, experiment without judgment, and enjoy the process rather than focusing on the outcome.

Together with art therapist Thuli Wolf, we’ve created a simple introductory guide to help you get started.

What does it mean to create art in the space between the visible and invisible—between what we inherit and what we discover within ourselves?

For Sarah Barzmehri, broken pieces become a language. Like ancient tablets, they hold memories and transform into conceptual sculptures.

In The World & The Soul Connected, two broken fragments are connected by a smaller one. One represents the soul, the invisible world within us; the other, the world around us, fragmented and divided. Between them is art: a bridge connecting what has been separated.

Through her fragments, Sarah explores how memory can become form, brokenness can become meaning, and art can connect what we see with what we feel.

Sarah’s work is currently on view as part of Resilience & Reverberation.

Curious to experience her work up close?

Join us October 8 at 5:30 PM for our Open House & Community Gathering at InterAction.

🖇️ Free to attend, but RSVP requested. Link in bio.

When does a story from the past become relevant to the present and how does art help you explore that connection?

For Elisabetta Marmolo, the past is never really past. Historical and mythological stories can help us see the present more clearly, revealing enduring questions about compassion, freedom, conflict, and our shared humanity.

Through her paintings, Elisabetta brings the past into the present; not simply to remember it, but to feel it.

Art can make history immediate, sometimes before we even fully understand it, opening space to imagine different futures and move beyond conflict and limitation.

Curious to dive further into the story behind Elisabetta’s The Tale of the Bear, the Hunter and the Tiger?

What happens when art becomes a space where vulnerability isn’t something to overcome, but something we can connect through?

For Britnee Scott, art is a way to express what words sometimes cannot.

Through her creative practice, she explores emotions, questions, uncertainty, grief, love, struggle, hope, healing, and the desire to grow.

Once a piece leaves the studio, it becomes an opportunity for someone else to connect with the story—to see themselves, feel something, and perhaps feel a little less alone. For Britnee, vulnerability doesn’t weaken the work; it gives it life.

Two of Britnee’s pieces are currently on view in Resilience & Reverberation.

Curious to experience her work up close; or perhaps bring one of her pieces into your own collection?

🗓️ Join us October 8 | 5:30–7:30 PM for the Open House & Community Gathering at InterAction.
