DAY 2: THE PORTAL IS OPENING… ✨
This is only the beginning.

Artists who draw together, stay together. ❤️

And apparently, I had a little studio assistant for the day… a praying mantis who hung out for most of the workday. 🦗✨ I took it as a good sign.

Then a sudden storm rolled in and sent us home. 🌧️

So this is where we left it — very much a work in progress. The drawing is only the foundation. There is still paint, color, layers, movement and so much more to come.

This Portal is influenced by my fascination with threshold, the work of artist Ingo Swann, memories of my dearly departed mom, and the idea of approaching this wild experience of being alive with curiosity, love and play.

Maybe we aren’t here to understand everything.

Maybe we’re here to experience it.

To create.
To play.
To love.

And I’m so grateful to be creating alongside Tyler — my husband, my best friend, and an artist I deeply admire. We inspire each other, challenge each other, and keep pushing each other to grow.

That’s what it means to rise in love. ❤️

THIS IS MY PORTAL. 🌈

A finished mural for Cult Classic Brewing in Kent Island, Maryland, created around the theme of Portal.

I wanted to create something that felt like a passage — colorful, energetic, a little mysterious, and open to interpretation. Something that could become part of the place and mean something a little different to everyone who encounters it.

But this mural didn’t happen in a vacuum.

I’m incredibly grateful to my husband-Tyler @tylermitchellgalleries , Cult Classic Brewing, KICK, Robin, and Janet for the trust, encouragement, collaboration, and opportunity to bring this idea from my head onto a wall.

Art is often talked about as a solitary act, but so much of what makes it possible is community — the people who open a door, say yes, hand you a wall, show up, encourage you, or believe in what you’re making before anyone else can see it.

So this portal belongs to all of us in a little way. 💛

Thank you for giving me a wall big enough to dream on.
And now this one gets to live here. ✨

UNBURIAL — Miguel Braceli

Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Art Museum at St. John’s College
Annapolis, Maryland

Unburial is an immersive installation by Venezuelan artist Miguel Braceli, bringing together large-scale painting, sculpture, pattern, architecture and movement within the museum space.

For this installation, Tyler Mitchell led the execution of the large-scale mural component of Braceli’s design — a 33-foot wall created through a three-color stencil process using paint sprayers. The pattern was calibrated and arranged specifically for the architecture of the space, creating the visual rhythm and vibration that connects the mural to the larger installation.

The exhibition came together through an incredible collaborative effort, including the sculptural work of Besan Khamis, the curatorial and organizational work of Peter Nesbett, Museum Director, and Jenny Harwood, Manager of Artistic Inquiry, the museum team, and participating St. John’s College students.

I was grateful to assist Tyler throughout the installation and to contribute to the hands-on execution of the mural.

It was a unique opportunity to experience Miguel’s work from inside the process — seeing how an artist’s vision is translated into a specific space through collaboration, material, architecture and many different hands.

✨ Sometimes the magic is giving someone enough space to decide they want to join in.

In class at @artfarmannapolis we started with the history of the magic wand, then looked at Picasso’s famous light drawings, photographed by Gjon Mili in 1949.

Picasso drew with light.

So naturally… we had to try it. ✨

The kids made their own magic wands with beads + fabric, then we turned out the lights and started painting with light.

Every kid did it differently. Swirls. Shapes. Names. Spells. Chaos. Magic.

And then we made one giant light painting together.

The coolest part? This turned into a spontaneous collaboration with Kaitlyn McQuaid + her student Maeve, who were doing a private photography lesson nearby. They jumped right in and became creative directors extraordinaire, helping our younger artists turn movement into light.

Almost there. 🌈

A little glimpse of the journey to this one.

This mural has been a very different process for me—working at a scale where you have to step back, rethink, solve problems, and keep trusting the next decision.

I’ve loved getting to know this little corner of Kent Island along the way—the water, the slower pace, the people, the Cult Classic crew, and even the crows who seem to have adopted us. 🖤

Feeling especially grateful to KICK @kent_island_creator_klub , Cult Classic @cultclassicbrewing , Janet @janetcraig7959 , Robin, my love- @tylermitchellgalleries, and everyone who welcomed me into this project and made it such a good experience.

If people really knew your story, they might see you differently.

The places you’ve been.
The things you’ve carried.
The people you’ve loved and lost.
The laughter. The resilience. The stories that don’t always get told.

And then there’s this:

Showing up.
Making something.
Laughing together.
Trying something new.
Being more than the story people think they know.

I’ve been so grateful to spend these evenings with this group of veterans and spouses. ❤️

We have two watercolor classes left, and then we move into colored pencil.
