a little over a year ago artbl.a began with an intention: finding new ways to bring people together around art and creativity, outside of the conventional contexts through where art is most often experienced.

since the first artbl.a took place just over a year ago, it has grown into a series of intimate, creatively led encounters shaped by conversation, connection and shared experiences.

artbl.a is a contemporary salon for creative exchange.

artbl.a now has a permanent online home at artbla.xyz where the eight past encounters that have taken place so far have been documented, as well as more about the project and ways to take part, both as a guest or a creative.

artbl.a continues to evolve 🌀💙

ARTBL.A #11

brought together an intimate group to explore Andrea Chiampo’s evolving practice, from his foundational work in 3D design to his current practice as a conceptual artist operating at the intersection of technology and blockchain.

Andrea opened his world of FUTURED PAST, revealing how blockchain functions in his work on multiple simultaneous registers: as canvas, as medium, and as performative gesture.

ARTBL.A #9

an evening of exploration of @made.by.oona practice; an ongoing conversation of surveillance, digital trace, and constructed narrative of her project ‘Dear David’.

the evening unfolded as a slow and participatory investigation; moving between silence and conversation, suspicion and curiosity.

ARTBL.A #8

an intimate evening with @jakeelwes diving into his practice as a pioneering artist using AI technology since 2016, making critically engaged art exploring the aesthetics and ethics of machine learning systems since the very first generative AI models.

for this edition of artbl.a, Jake presented different parts of his work through the years sharing how they used technology and more specifically AI to pose questions on how we define human identity, collection of data, latent spaces and much more.

ARTBL.A #7

for the seventh edition of artbl.a we stepped into the world of Kintsugi with Carmen ( @crmnpots ) and we got our hands dirty! the evening was set at @cernamic where we were led by Carmen into understanding the theory behind Kintsugi, followed by making our own Kintsugi pottery.

Kintsugi (金継ぎ), which translates to “golden joinery,” is a centuries-old Japanese art form that repairs broken pottery using lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Instead of hiding the cracks, kintsugi highlights them, embracing the imperfections as part of the object’s history and beauty. Kintsugi is not just a repair method — it’s a metaphor for resilience and transformation.

I was speaking at @artbl.a, discussing how Roy Lichtenstein used images of brushstrokes to explore perception and the continuity of experience between painting as object and as virtual representational space, both of which remain connected to the material world, even in abstraction.

ARTBL.A #5

a special edition - for this gathering we welcomed @aniacatherine from @operator_______ who prompted a session of introspection on topics which are always in the front or back of the mind of art world participants.

are artists cats or dogs? how do we balance the idea of being an artist for art’s sake and having a sustainable practice/ artistic oxygen? which of our qualities most seeps into our creative work? and so on

intimate - deep - insightful
thank you Ania and all of the wonderful guests who joined and participated 🫂

ARTBL.A #4

for this fourth edition we switched things up and hosted our gathering at @robertalice.studio studio who welcomed us into his world and practice. Robert Alice’s practice is multidisciplinary, investigating blockchains and their histories and combining this into contemporary art in both physical and digital form.

During our gathering Alice led us through his different bodies of work he has worked on since 2019 to now and led us through the intricacies of working with cryptography, blockchain and digital media whilst still maintaining a physicality in his works.

ARTBL.A #3

the third edition of artbla was a truly special one as we welcomed @blahblahpaperblah who guided us through a practical workshop of creating art with plotters. Licia explorations have led her to combine generative art with robots, bridging her digital and physical painting practices through pen plotters.

During our intimate gathering all of our guests were invited to create their own pen plotter drawing by utilising Licia’s algorithm and understanding how code translates into beautiful physical works.
