I've been thinking about creating this piece for a while now and two weeks ago I found a spot and got permission from the owner to create it. 20 minutes into painting a neighbor came out and started shouting at me that I shouldn't be creating there.

I tried to calmly explain that i had permission but they wouldn't budge and kept on shouting and being aggressive towards me. I am not one for confrontation and cannot create in a hostile environment and the last thing i want is to upset anyone with my art so i packed up my sprays and went home feeling upset and defeated.

This piece means a lot to me as most of the works I have been creating recently have been special commissions outside of my beloved Florentin neighborhood and with the current political climate where the #LGBTQIA+ community has become a target and the government is taking daily active steps to threaten our rights i felt i had to make this mural.

I took a few days to consider my options and while walking around looking for a new spot i came across an old run down shutter belonging to the local Jewish Ethiopian Community culture center. After a few attempts to get in touch with them i finally got their approval and that of the neighbors and yesterday afternoon i went and created this.

Its a freehand spray paint artwork using the rainbow colours to depict a colourful Tel Aviv. A city which is only beautiful because of all the different types of humans and communities that live here. This coming pride month i hope that non LGBTQIA+ individuals can see themselves too represented in the rainbow and can understand that a world where everyone can be themselves is the best kind of world for us all.

I have been very challenged and traumatized recently by the divide in the nation of Israel and the most recent round of war and just needed to remind myself why I create and what i wish my impact on this world to be. I want to live in a world where everyone is respected and can pursue their best life and dreams! Hoping for Peace within Israel and to the entire world speedily in our days!

Huge thanks to all involved and the wonderful people of Bat Yam that cheered me on as i spent 4 days in the hot sun bringing my vision to life using paint, brushes and rollers as opposed to my go to technique of #spraypaint
There was a moment right in the middle where i couldn't see the beginning or the end but i just told myself to focus on the spot in front of me and keep going and now it all seems like it was a dream. #alefbuildingdreamsdaybyday

New #ALEF #streetart #blueandwhite #mural for @under_1000 #artgallery
Florentin TLV. January 2020

I remember walking past this gallery and thinking how I wished I could have my work exhibited there.
Fast forward 5 years and here I am on their front wall with my Alef artworks exhibited inside and many of my pieces have found homes throughout Israel and around the world thanks to them.

I am grateful to everyone that has been a part of this journey that just keeps on becoming more real and amazing. I am also grateful to myself and the universe for letting it happen.

I had to respect the work of #streetartist #OMETZ -LIFE IS COMPLEX -
It is beautiful too though, if we allow it to be!

Follow your dreams people! ✌️😎💙🏗️🏢☀️ #buildingdreamsdaybyday #art #artbyalef #urbanism #gentrification #conceptualart #contemporaryart #fineart #wantofmatter #israeliart #migdalshalom #TelAviv #tlv #Florentin #israel taken in Florentin, Tel Aviv by @artbyalef
