A little update on “Wherever you go”

After all the pencils, little adjustments and more than a few moments of deciding it was finished…. Then deciding it wasn’t (can you see the few additions I added since the previous post) and now it’s framed and hanging at the gallery.

There’s always something a little strange about seeing a drawing that I spent so many hours sitting at my desk suddenly hanging in a gallery wall.

🐻💛 Look at those faces

Can you see why thy this moment captured my attention? That sweet cub gazing up at Mama gets me every time.

Still working away, adding more details and layers… but these two are definitely starting to come to life.

Sometimes the best thing I can do for my artwork is step away from the drawing board for awhile 🌲

Driving through the Saguenay Fjord was absolutely stunning. Mountains, forests, water pretty much everything that makes me want to stop the car every five minutes and take another picture.

There’s something about being surrounded by places like this that quiets the mind and fills my creative cup.

I came home with a ridiculous amount of photos, amazing memories and definitely a little more inspiration.

I’ve been a little quiet around here. It for very good reason. August ended up being full of adventures 🐻🌲🐋

At the beginning of the month my husband and I went to Tadoussac, Quebec with my brother and his family and then I went back again at the end of the month with my daughter for whale watching.

Between the whale watching, wildlife, forests, fjords and more than a few moments had me wishing for a much better camera but the experiences were amazing.

One of the whale watching times (I went three times 😁) I seen sea lions playing and stretching themselves on the rocks it was so sweet.

Then we went into the forest to watch the bears in their natural habitat… as the guide put it “we were the ones in cages not the bears” it was beautiful deep in the forest and in there we seen a total of 2 mama bears, 7 cubs and 1 male bear. It was amazing I could have watched them for hours .

Then on our way back to our hotel a huge rainbow appeared right over the hotel.

Whales, sea lions, mama bears and cubs and a rainbow to finish the day.

Nature was definitely showing off 😁

Trips like this fill my creative cup. I came home with some incredible memories and so much inspiration that I have a feeling will eventually end up onto my drawing board.

🐻💛 a little Clearly Adored update…

That sweet little cubs face is slowly starting to appear and I’m loving where it’s going. And I can’t wait to keep going on it. There’s something about that little gaze up at Mama that gets me every time.

I’d happily keep working on it today but I have commissions waiting for their finishing touches so these two are going to have to wait beside my drawing board while I finish up those.

Although walking past that little face without picking up my pencils has been difficult (I have put them up on my desk and done a little more work… then went back to the responsibilities of working the commission.

🐻💛 A new one has made its way into my drawing board

I’ve called this one “ Clearly adored”

It’s a mama bear sitting in the grass with her cub gazing up at her, and honestly it was the look that got me . There’s something about the way this little cub looks at mama that just says you are everything to me.
The original reference is actually a little different. Mama is happily eating grass with pieces of it dangling from her mouth, but the moment I saw it, I could already picture the drawing I wanted to create.

So I’m taking a few artistic liberties and leaving out mama’s mouthful of grass. 😂 I want the focus to be exactly where mine went: that beautiful little gaze between the two of them.

Those wildlife moments I love most. Nothing dramatic, just a tiny expression or connection that feels so familiar and tells a much bigger story.

There’s lots more to go, but I already have a feeling these two are going to keep pulling me back to my desk for “just a little more “ 💛

This one is finished!

This one took a little longer than I expected.

It’s been one of those drawings where I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be at my drawing desk or outside enjoying the beautiful summer weather.

There’s something about bears that completely captures my heart. Their gentleness, curiosity and the way they care for one another always inspires me.

I called this piece “Where you go I go” because it reminds me that life’s best moments are often shared with somebody by your side.

And the two photo bombers that are impossible to miss… always wanting to be a part of everything. Gracie is keeping watch from the grass and Anabelle made sure she was front and centre beside the drawing. Apparently they both wanted to be a part of the finished reveal.

🐻💛 a little update on “Where you go, I go”

Both of their sweet faces are finally starting to appear and I think that’s my favourite stage of every drawing. It’s the moment they stop looking like pencil marks and start feeling like little personalities looking back at me.

There is something about bears that completely captivates me. Their soulful eyes, their gentle moments, the way they care for each other…. They always seem to tell the kind of stories I want to draw.

We just got home from a weekend away and I had a great time hanging out with family I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t looking forward to getting back to these two….. But the time away was exactly what I needed. I came back to my drawing desk with fresh eyes and a heart full and ready to pick up my pencils. There’s something about being out in nature that quietly fills your soul and reminds you why you love creating in the first place.

🐅💛 Happy International Tiger Day!

When most people think of tigers they think of strength, power and those unmistakable stripes.

I think of moments like this.

A mama holding her baby close. A tiny paw reaching up to her face. A quiet reminder that love, tenderness and family aren’t just human experiences. They’re part of the wild too.

One of the things I love most about creating wildlife art is discovering these softer moments. They help us see animals not just for how powerful they are, but for how deeply they care for one another.

It’s moments like these that inspired me to create
“Always within reach”
Because no matter the species there’s something universally comforting about the love between parent and child.

Today feels like the perfect reminder that these incredible animals are more than icons of the wild. They’re mothers, families, protectors and part of a beautiful creation that deserves both our wonderful and our care.

🐻💛 it’s been a little quiet over here lately… and honestly it’s because I’ve been doing a lot of drawing, erasing and starting over.

My last post was about a new piece I was so excited to start. I ended up restarting it… then restarting it again. It looked ok but it never felt like the drawing I had in my head, so finally I decided to put it aside. And work on practicing the parts that were not going the way I wanted them too.

And now I came back to something that felt immediately right; my newest drawing “where you go I go”

The sweetness of these two cubs completely captivated me and I have been loving watching their little faces come to life on my drawing board.

I always want to keep growing and stretching my skills, but sometimes the best thing I can do is come back to the artwork that I love.

Still lots to go… but these two keep looking at me and I just can’t leave them alone. It’s always “just a little bit more” 🐻

This portrait became something I never expected

While I was working on it my friend’s dog passed away.

What started as a celebration became a memorial.

Losing a pet leaves a space that’s words often can’t fill. They aren’t “just pets”. They’re family. They become part of our routines, our happiest memories and our everyday lives.

When I lost my Jacky love earlier this year , this same friend was incredibly kind and supportive. She understood that kind of grief is a way that only another animal lover can.

So when she found herself walking the same road, I wanted to offer her the same kindness and support. I wanted this portrait to be something that brought comfort during such a difficult time.

I’ll be honest…. It made finishing this portrait much harder. I put even more pressure on myself to make it perfect. (The perfectionist in me is still a work in progress. 😊)

We have left a spot available in the bottom corner for her to add the paw print she has, making it even more personal

This experience reminded me that we are often our toughest critics, noticing every imperfection while others see the love behind what we’ve created. The people receiving our work aren’t looking for perfection. They are looking for love. ❤️

And sometimes, that’s exactly what a portrait becomes…a way to hold onto a beloved companion who will always have a place in our hearts. 🐾

🐻💛starting on my new drawing….

As you can see I’m just putting down base layers not much done on it… but I have to admit this one has been tugging at me to come sit down on work on it.

There’s something about the image that has just captured me…

I already have named this piece “what love looks like” because sometimes love isn’t found in grand gestures.

Sometimes it’s found in simply showing up, day after day.
