An important announcement from Artereal Gallery’s Founder Luisa Catanzaro:

(The end of an era: Artereal Gallery to close in April 2025.)

"For 19 years, Artereal Gallery has been an all consuming passion for me. Opening Artereal in 2006 allowed me to realise a long held dream of one day owning an art gallery and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

During this time I also feel that I have gained a family. Noula, Barbara and Rhianna have been with me for 19 and 15 years respectively and they are the essence of Artereal. Having closely consulted with them, we all feel that this is the natural time to conclude this phase of our lives, and this chapter for Artereal.

I would like to thank each of our artists for their dedication and commitment to both their art practices and Artereal Gallery. We have been beyond blessed to work with so many talented artists. We believe that each one of them has contributed something important to the Australian art world and we feel privileged to have been able to support them in doing so.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many collectors, industry peers and friends who have supported us throughout this journey. We couldn’t have done it without you.

For now, I would like to finish by reiterating that although this is the end of an era, we intend to conclude with huge pride. I hope these final months will be a celebration of the incredible legacy that we have all built together. We look forward to celebrating with you in person. Stay tuned for the dates for our final exhibitions in February and March 2025.”

- Luisa Catanzaro (Nov, 2024)

Vale Barbara Dowse.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved Curator and dear friend, Barbara Dowse, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on 24 December 2025.

Barbara was deeply loved by Luisa, Noula and Rhianna, and by the many artists she worked alongside during her 19 years at Artereal Gallery. Her presence, care, and unwavering support shaped countless artistic journeys, and she will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched.

A doyenne of the Australian art world, Barbara was known for her deep commitment to the arts, her generosity of spirit, and her rare sensitivity to each artist’s unique way of seeing and making. She met artists where they were, honouring the integrity of their practice with discernment, warmth, and deep respect. Her influence extended far beyond exhibitions, leaving a lasting imprint on the cultural and personal lives of many.

Barbara’s family are holding a celebration of her life, and all are warmly invited to join us at this event, to be held at 3pm on Tuesday 13 January at Artereal Gallery, 747 Darling Street, Rozelle. by @arterealgallery

For 19 years, Artereal Gallery has been shaped by the incredible artists who have filled our walls with beauty, meaning, and bold ideas. To every artist—both represented and guest—who has shared their work with us, thank you. Your talent, dedication, and vision have made Artereal what it is. Without artists, there is no gallery, and we have been beyond privileged to champion so many remarkable creatives. This journey has been unforgettable because of you. ❤️
