The mnemonic porcelain sculptures of Ebony Russell will be on view with @ArterealGallery at Sydney Contemporary. Russell’s works explore the nostalgia and desire that is imbued in collected objects. Says Russell, "I am interested in exploring decorative practices traditionally performed by women as the main construction method for my practice. Currently the environments and structures I create utilise cake-piping techniques with porcelain, allowing my imaginings and reveries to take shape". These works will shown alongside paintings by Elwira Skowrońska and Patrizia Biondi. Together, these artists look at the expanded ideas of painting, pushing its boundaries beyond the confines of frame and surface. Congratulations to Stevie Fieldsend on being shortlisted as a finalist for the 2022 Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture! This important and prestigious Prize is a celebration of the human form and its influence on today’s sculptor. The Prize is an acknowledgement of the influence Bass had as one of Australia’s pre-eminent public sculptors. ✦ ‘This work is a homage to the lovers in an ancient collection of erotic poems from the Hebrew Bible - ‘The Song of Songs’. It is an epic and almost surreal celebration of sensual pleasures and passionate exchanges between the two lovers. These two dream-like bodies in the exhibition are at once feminine and masculine looking to one another with love and tenderness.’ Stevie Fieldsend Artist Statement ✦ The Tom Bass Prize Finalists’ Exhibition runs until 27 March 2022. Congratulations to Jess MacNeil on being shortlisted as a finalist for the 2022 Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture! This important and prestigious Prize is a celebration of the human form and its influence on today’s sculptor. The Prize is an acknowledgement of the influence Bass had as one of Australia’s pre-eminent public sculptors. ✦ ‘Threshold’ embodies being not only ‘both’, but ‘many’ simultaneously; splintered, volatile, evasive, pervasive. Images are perceived whilst being knocked adroitly out of place in continuous and intriguingly constructive destruction. Viscerally, aesthetically and experientially, Threshold embodies the intense fragility and immense power and vigour of life force. Jess MacNeil Artist Statement ✦ The Tom Bass Prize Finalists’ Exhibition runs until 27 March 2022.
