POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s now been over three weeks since our lives got turned upside down and we are still out here picking up the pieces that didn’t break and trying to get em clean! 🧼
🚿 Finally, a few days ago, we were blessed with running (non-potable) water in our home and last night our internet connection returned! We’re still a long way away from ‘normal,’ but every step in that direction is an incredible relief.
🌱As we near the end of cleaning the salvaged items, we look forward to reuniting them with their artists and we are also scouring the town for a new location to be the home of Art Garden 2.0 - we’ve had some exciting leads, but it’s also a heartbreaking process (as we already knew and are now seeing first-hand) because of how little space is available and how extraordinarily expensive it all is. (We had such a sweet thing before, y’all!!!)
💚 Nonetheless, we are committed to continuing to create space and economic opportunity for local artists, especially those from strategically undervalued communities.
🙏 We are so grateful for all the helping hands and generous offers of support over these past few weeks of recovery! There is still a very long road ahead and all continued support is deeply appreciated, especially as we miss what is ordinarily the busiest time of the year for our art businesses where we have typically made the majority of our income for the year. Thanks to all of the hope y’all have being pouring in, we have hope of making it through the winter and finding a new location. We thank you for continuing to share our links and posts, every bit helps!! by @artgardencanopy

Hello Everyone,

First of all, THANK YOU again and again for everyone who has shown up to donate their efforts, in all the forms those have taken, in the aftermath of this disaster. We are so incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support we’re receiving in this time.

We’ve finally been able to take a little break from the recovery effort to take account of all of our losses and begin a plan for what rebuilding Art Garden will take. Ultimately, we hope to get back to providing artists amazing opportunities to show and sell their work, to learn, to teach, and to have studio space in community to let their imaginations run wild.

We’re updating our fundraising goal to show a more realistic reflection of the costs required to fully re-establish Art Garden and Canopy Studios in a new location. This budget would allow us to:
-Secure a new location at current market rates
-Build out the shell into gallery and studio spaces
-Rebuild Art Garden Artists’ display fixtures
-Install gallery lighting
-Restock basic shop and office supplies
-Restock basic plant inventory
-Give us 6mo. runway on rent, utilities & staffing

In the meantime, we continue to clean what few things we were able to salvage from the mud and we hope to launch some kind of sale or auction of items that survived in the days to come. There is still a very long road ahead for us and our community and we appreciate all the help we can get - donations, sharing our fundraising efforts and our story, engaging with our socials as well as those of our neighbors and aid groups, etc, it’s all been and will continue to be super important for us in the weeks and months to come.

We love you so much & We Will Be Back! by @artgardencanopy

It’s been a couple few more days and the effort to clear out @artgardenavl and our building of Riverview Station has been truly extraordinary. The turnout of volunteers here that have been helping artists save whatever possible, shoveling muck, hauling ruined furniture and everything else imaginable in horrible and hazardous conditions, has just been overwhelming. We are so grateful.

On the other hand, seeing the last five years of our lives and efforts piled in giant muddy heaps in our once beautiful garden and in front of our entrance is so shocking and disorienting. The insides of our beloved art home and livelihoods are gutted…our insides are gutted too…it’s hard to understand or accept that it’s all gone and that our neighbors’ and friends’ businesses are all gone. The places we had lunch, got art supplies, went to classes, saw music, went to art shows…all the spaces where we lived life just gone…and the ripples of this degree of devastation go out across entire counties and beyond 🤯

🌱 Still…we have to move forward…and we’re beginning to try to figure out what that looks like. We are in search for a new home for @artgardenavl and are hopeful for a future where we can bring back the magic and allow us to give space for all the wonderful things Art Garden had to offer our community. This is a time of reimagining and transformation that could lead to even more amazing potential. We’re open to the good things coming. If you’ve ever been interested in collaborating with @artgardenavl in a big way, let’s talk! Now could be the time.

🔹In the meantime, THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who has engaged with us, shared our links, supported our fund to rebuild, volunteered, etc etc etc. WE COULD NOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!!!!🔹

💚There’s still a long road ahead and we will continue to need your help!! Please keep sharing our links and telling our story. We can come back brighter than ever. 💚

It seems that shock continues to carry us through as the adrenaline has left us days ago…the community support for artists in the district has been an absolutely beautiful thing to see amidst the otherwise apocalyptic surroundings down here in the Arts District.

We are so grateful for all the support that we have received and that has been pouring into the greater affected area. We still have no electricity, running water, or internet service, but trying to keep you updated as possible. On Art Garden’s end, the salvaging of what we can has about come to a close and we are shifting gears towards actually cleaning and figuring out storage for these things, and hopefully catching a day of rest at some point as we’re now at over a week of non-stop go-go-go.

Check our stories to stay up-to-date on local resource news as well as how to support from afar.

🔹If anyone is seeing this messages or someone they know in particular needs immediate help or any kind of resources, please let us know and we will try to get you what you need. 🔹

The amount of love and support that have been coming in for us, our beloved arts community, and those suffering beyond has been absolutely overwhelmingly wonderful in an otherwise overwhelmingly horrible situation. To everyone that has reached out, sent up prayers, relief funds, supplies, love, etc - Thank You So Much!!!

If this message is reaching anyone that is in a dire situation needing any kind of supplies (food/water/PPE/etc) please let us know - we’re in communication with lots of folks who want to help and we will try to get some help to you.

Today we continued trying to salvage what is left of the beautiful art home we shared with so many amazing creatives…the devastation and heartbreak just keep piling up the more we learn about the greater destruction in all of our neighboring communities…just taking things one step at a time.

Thanks again ya’ll, we’ll update as we’re able.

Many neighbors and folks from our community have asked how or when they can come help with the effort in the River Arts District. Riverview Station, the building Art Garden was in, is organizing an effort that folks can join in if they want to help - but know that this is an incredibly dangerous place to be from the toxic mud/dust/fumes/and super dangerous debris. PPE is critical to protect yourself if you do decide to enter this hazard area.

***Folks from out of town, your desire to help is so appreciated, but the resources here are so limited, extra folks coming into town would not be super wise***

From Riverview Station:

“Community Cleanup Effort at Riverview Station in RAD starting Fridayday, October 4th from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and continuing daily until completion. Please come help to save the artist community of Asheville!

This flood has been catastrophic and devastating for so many of us, and we really appreciate any effort you can make to help us recover.

We will be shoveling out mud, dragging out furniture and contents, ripping out drywall and debris. Please bring friends, neighbors, your church group, any able-bodied person with you.

Please bring whatever you can from this list:

1. Flat shovels
2. Grain shovels
3. The type of snow shovels that have a scoop
4. Crowbars or wrecking bars
5. Stepladders
6. Wheelbarrows
7. Battery-operated sawzalls (reciprocating saws)
8. Battery-operated saws
9. Two-wheel dollies
10. Sledgehammers
11. Hammers
12. Latex rubber gloves
13. Work Gloves
14. N-95 Masks
15. Safety goggles
16. Bottled water
17. Your own lunch and snacks
18. Hand sanitizer

19. headlamps

If there’s something else you think would be helpful, bring it.

If anyone has a front-end loader that we can use, please text 828-380-9505.

If anyone has a backhoe that we can use, please text the same number.

If anyone has a pickup truck they can help to carry supplies with, please text the same number.

Port-a-potties will be available on site.

Blessings to each of you as we navigate this horrible situation together.

All our best,

Helaine, Trudy and Jenny” by @artgardencanopy

😔 We got a look inside and it ain’t good folks. It’s going to be a long road ahead without our livelihoods, but we just have to take it one step at a time.

🌊 We’ve got a GoFundMe set up to help in the recovery process for Art Garden and our Artists. So many in our community need aid - wherever you send it - thank you & bless you!

We are so grateful for the outpouring of love from our friends and family near and far - We are safe and incredibly fortunate to have our bodies and home largely unharmed in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Sadly our sweet little dream called Art Garden and our upstairs Canopy Studios suddenly became one with the French Broad river, along with a vast swath of our @riverartsdistrictasheville community. The devastation in our community and neighboring communities is absolutely horrific.

For now we are focused on making sure our home base and neighbors are meeting basic needs, and salvaging what we can from the wreckage. We’ll update you as we are able. Stay safe out there 💗 by @artgardencanopy

Art Garden is closed and evacuated. We hope to reopen Sunday, if the water doesn’t come inside. At this point that is looking very unlikely, but gosh dang it I’m not gonna start crying til I finish writing this post. Keep us in your thoughts if you have room. Wishing everyone well, and PLEASE be safe out there!!! 💙🩵💙🐳💦💦 Lots of love, from Annie, Jack, and Dillon. by @artgardencanopy
