A MOST EXTRAORDINARY ARRIVAL IS IMMINENT

Let the bells ring. Let the heavens part. Let the city prepare itself.

Visionary outsider folk artist, international influencer, and provocateur of uncertain jurisdiction, CA$H COW, announces the forthcoming public action PENNIES FROM HEAVEN, a spectacular New York City intervention of uncertain consequence and potentially historic significance.

On Saturday, November 7, this most unconventional dignitary of the contemporary world shall make an appearance on the streets of Manhattan. The occasion calls for volunteer videographers and photographers to document the proceedings for posterity, or at the very least, for the internet.

THE GRAND ITINERARY

12 PM to 1 PM | 23rd Street
Beginning at First Avenue and proceeding west to Tenth Avenue.

1 PM to 2 PM | 14th Street
Beginning at Eleventh Avenue and proceeding east to Avenue A.

Members of the press, documentarians, image-makers, loyal subjects, curious bystanders, and all persons of sound or questionable judgment are cordially invited to attend.

Those wishing to secure a place in this momentous affair may DM here, send correspondence to artinoddplaces@gmail.com, or simply present themselves on the day, when history, spectacle, and the possibility of loose change shall converge upon the streets of New York.

No velvet rope. No papal bull. No guarantee of miracles.

CA$H COW IS COMING.
Govern yourselves accordingly.

Art in Odd Places, September 27, 2026. Where I learned (again) that the Emergency Index is a place. And a feeling still drifting from the lonely apartments where we watch the storm from a window. And a memory of a silent walk to work with sweat running down our backs. And the idea that the weather is not itself hostile but some larger reminder that adaptation is difficult and a privilege. To stand in front of the box fan, to feel the heat from the subway grate. Like the place where the air and the overheated sea meet and create something that moves and howls. Without the Refuge but under the shelter of what my friend called fancy scaffolding there was listening and exchange. I’m still not sure if it’s possible to collectively hold or release somatic residues of climate trauma that I carry in my right shoulder, shivering in my umbrella dress. In the company of friends and strangers. Sharing some of the stories I’ve been gifted through the witness prints. What are the landscapes where we can imagine a displaced emergency covering parts of the skyline? Like the low clouds and some mix of grief and gratitude. And this passage into the season of storms where we gathered. by @artinoddplaces

It rained. It was windy. We showed up anyway. 🌧️🌆

Thank you to the artists who filled 14th Street with imagination and generosity, the volunteers who gave their day to this, the photographers who caught it all, and everyone who came out and brought the utopia with them.

Nothing stopped us. We were there. Together. That matters. 🖤

Llovió. Hizo viento. Aun así, estuvimos ahí. 🌧️🌆

Juntxs. Y eso importa. 🖤

Thank you @artinoddplaces @arantxaaraujo @pancholopez for inviting me to present Germinating Futures this past weekend during AiOP 2026 UTOPIAS. It was an important moment for me to bring this project to life thanks to the organizers of this performance art festival in its 21st year! I had beautiful exchanges with people willing to listen and engage in conversation, receive free seeds, propagated plants, seed dispersals, and learn how to fold a seed envelope.

Many thanks to Emilio Rojas for including me in Tezcatl: Obsidian Meditations, a collective durational performance presented as part of Art in Odd places: UTOPIAS in NYC on Saturday, September 27. The AiOP call to artists: “Drawing from Mexica conceptions of temporality- where the unseen future is behind us and the visible past is in front- participants will use obsidian mirrors to explore walking backwards, reflection, movement, and collective gestures.”

This experience was exhilarating. Walking backward while scrying through obsidian — navigating the bustling urban setting and movement interspersed with quiet moments of contact improvisation — reveled visceral optical illusions, juxtapositions and mirages. The horizon seemed magnified yet ten miles away. Time and the physical world seemed to unspool as imagination intensified. Experiencing this temporal phemonon with a sympathetic collective [during the brief lull of a nor’easter] was numinious, humbling and infinately inspiring.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to take part in Art in Odd Places 2026: UTOPIAS, a festival that brought together visual and performance artists to imagine the city not as it is, but as it could be. Over two days, and despite the severe weather, the projects transformed 14th Street in Manhattan and invited us to consider other possible ways of inhabiting the present.

There, I presented yo, Guirre, a performance that brings two ancestral practices from the Canary Islands, my homeland, to the streets of New York: Silbo Gomero and Salto del Pastor. The action offers an alternative vision of the future rooted in ancestral practices that have survived colonization, reclaiming them as other ways of moving, communicating, and relating to the territory.

Flood (A Path Through), 2026

I began this work by observing traces of water moving across the pavement of West 14th Street—small paths left behind as water navigated the architecture of the sidewalk.

I responded by allowing the hand-pulled linen to create a path of its own, spreading across the pavement and forcing pedestrians to alter their movements around and through it.

And then it rained.

Water returned to the site.

The linen absorbed it. The pavement changed. People changed their routes. A work conceived from the traces of water became an encounter with water itself.

Presented within UTOPIAS, Flood (A Path Through) considers the city as something that is never entirely fixed—a space continually reorganized by weather, bodies, materials, and forces we often overlook.

For a few hours on West 14th Street, the sidewalk became something else.

Sarah Rudledge Extends Blessing to AiOP/This is meant to expand the scope of Nicolás' blessing on 14th Street in Manhattan last night.

September 25-26, 2026
From Sara Rudledge
Location: Melbourne, Australia

Art in All Places/A Blessing / Art in Odd Places / AiOP 2026: Utopias

At 1:43 pm AEST we light 3 candles and arrange the altar. I finish a piece of toast thick with cumquat jam. Fritz is in position, snoring under my studio table.

At 1:55 pm we begin to transition - a walk of sorts in the mind to arrive at your blessing - and we sit in peace.

Eyes closed, we hold some small darkness and think of you all gathering together in the night, at once part of and far from this loose weave of company.

At 2:02 pm an intense feeling arises - hope? sadness? love?

At 2:09 pm something akin to vertigo.

At 2:25pm the corellas squark outside my window calling us back to ‘here’.
