Last Friday, I built new sides for the Foam Booth, the enclosure made originally for last year’s CounterPointe collaboration with @annaantongiorgi that I planned to take to last weekend’s @artinoddplaces - the wind had already started so I tested it with weights to make sure it would hold up during the nor’easter on Saturday.

As the forecast changed and projected wind gusts rose, I decided it wouldn’t be safe and opted to improvise an alternative. But the amazing sunset on Friday gave me the chance to get some photos and documentation of my own semi private performance (with a cameo by my cone-of-shame-sporting Velcro dog Thelma) like that I was hoping to give others the opportunity to do. Another time …

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to take part in Art in Odd Places 2026: UTOPIAS, a festival that brought together visual and performance artists to imagine the city not as it is, but as it could be. Over two days, and despite the severe weather, the projects transformed 14th Street in Manhattan and invited us to consider other possible ways of inhabiting the present.

There, I presented yo, Guirre, a performance that brings two ancestral practices from the Canary Islands, my homeland, to the streets of New York: Silbo Gomero and Salto del Pastor. The action offers an alternative vision of the future rooted in ancestral practices that have survived colonization, reclaiming them as other ways of moving, communicating, and relating to the territory.

Thank you to
@artinoddplaces artinoddplaces, @arantxaaraujo and @pancholopez for including yo, Guirre!
