9 years since I opened my little art studio and shop! Almost a 1/6 of my whole life! I'm thinking of giving some oil and cold wax lessons this year, LET ME KNOW HERE, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED. Maybe a Saturday, up on the 3rd floor. I've had a lot of requests.
P.s. making this was hard work😅, spot the errors!

Some Sunday morning cloud studies! Heaven. My inspiration, among other things, as you probably know.

Next is Karen Duffy! @artkduffy

Karen is a semi abstract artist with a passion for colour, light and subtle texture. Working mainly with oil paint combined with cold wax medium, she creates expressive paintings inspired by the beautiful natural world around her.

Rather than replicating a specific landscape or scene, Karen creates her own personal and emotional response to the places and moments that inspire her. Her paintings suggest the essence of special memories, allowing colour, texture and instinct to guide the work.

The addition of cold wax medium gives Karen endless opportunities to experiment with different materials and tools as each painting develops. Her process involves building up many layers, with the work often changing dramatically from start to finish. Karen particularly loves allowing hints of the under layers to remain visible, creating what she describes as a kind of “complex simplicity”.

Her approach is expressive, experimental and sometimes a little messy. As Karen says, she likes to “dance with paint”, so don’t expect a perfectly tidy studio!

📍 Visit Karen at ArtKDuffy, Level 1, Shrewsbury Market Hall, SY1 1HQ. You’ll find her near the gin bar!

Due to the Market Hall being closed on Sundays, the artists and makers there will be opening their studios on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of November to ensure as many people as possible can pop over to see them during SYOS!

90x90cm finished!

In my opinion there's nothing more exciting than observing a stormy sea (well, almost nothing!) The energy is just amazing and I've tried to capture a glimpse in this painting along with all those gorgeous colours. There's lots of subtle texture and transparent layers.

Still drying, but I'm eager to share as I have been very quiet on here, mainly doing a lot of drawing.

I had a minor operation after my trip to France and my Dad has taken up a lot of my time over the last few years. He's 94 and has alzeimers. I just needed a little break from painting, but I'm gradually bouncing back.

Photography really inspires my work. I'm obsessed with taking photos and I now think the process of taking the photos is part of my art process. The actual taking the photos is so important, it seems to lock the beautiful things into my brain!😀 Here's a few from my trip to visit my son in France in July. If you don't know already I lived there for many years.

I'm constantly watching for a photo opportunity, I often wonder if I'm a bit odd, but then isn't everybody in their own way?!😅 Or are we arty people really different?

Today I worked on some mini paintings, seacapes, lilyponds & landscapes. I think I've found what I'm passionate about after 10 years of painting full time. I tend to flit between the 3, depending how I feel.

It's been a while since we ventured up to the Long Mynd, Church Stretton. The 3k climb up through the golf course was tough as we are getting older! But once up we ran a good few kilometers and it was wonderful. Definitely my art inspiration. The wind was blowing on the top so quite refreshing. My goodness the sky was a painting in itself. I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow, but it was worth it. Nature is so invigorating❤️

A Puff Of Pink
This is a near total transformation of a painting that has been in my naughty corner and I'm really happy with the results. Delicate turquoise and teall tones with vivid fuchia and pastel pinks and subtle texture. 90x90cm.
