The garlic paratha cook-off reaches its final round! Who makes the better paratha?

Our guests from Australia took on the challenge of making garlic parathas during my Indian cooking class in Delhi. They rolled the dough, folded it into triangles, and finally cooked their parathas on the tawa. Now comes the most important part: checking the golden crust, layers, texture, and final result.

Cooking Indian food for the first time is all about learning by doing, and these two gave it their best shot. But there can only be one winner in our little kitchen competition.

A little friendly competition in an Indian kitchen! Who do you think will win this garlic paratha cook-off?

These lovely guests from Australia tried making garlic parathas from scratch during my Indian cooking class in Delhi. From adding the spices to folding the dough into a triangle, they were doing a great job, especially for their first attempt.

But rolling the paratha is only the beginning. The real test comes when we cook them on the tawa and see how they turn out.

This is Part 1 of our little kitchen challenge. In Part 2, you’ll see the final results and find out how their parathas turned out.

Part 2: The Jeera Rice taste test!

My guest from California made Jeera Rice for the first time, and now came the most important part… tasting it!

I asked him what he thought, and his answer honestly made me happy:

“You can eat it as it is. It’s so flavourful!”

I told him that’s exactly the beauty of good Jeera Rice it can almost be a meal on its own.

Then I asked him what he would pair it with. His answers? Dal, sautéed vegetables, or grilled chicken.

And when I asked if he thought it was easy to make, he said yes! He even told me he’s going to make it again when he gets back to California.

From learning to cook it for the first time… to planning to make it back home.

That’s exactly what I love about my cooking classes — not just teaching recipes, but helping people take a little taste of India home with them.

According to the traditional story, seven coffee beans were brought from Yemen to India by Baba Budan, eventually leading to coffee cultivation in the hills of Karnataka.
