This is the kind of everyday Delhi moment that tourists often miss.

As the evening sets in, the streets become a playground. A volleyball net goes up right in the middle of the road, young people start playing, and the passing crowd becomes the audience. Add some colourful street art in the background, and suddenly you have a perfect picture of Delhi’s everyday life.

This is India beyond the monuments and tourist attractions spontaneous, lively, creative and full of life.

Have you ever seen a Ganesh pandal in Delhi?

Look at the flowers, lights and chandeliers around Lord Ganesha. It almost feels like a grand Indian wedding.

Ganesh Chaturthi is not just about the beautiful decorations. It is about faith, community, celebration and finally saying goodbye to Ganpati Bappa through visarjan.

Today, September 25, marks the final day of Ganeshotsav this year.

This is one of the many sides of India that you can experience when you go beyond the usual tourist attractions.

If you’re planning to visit Delhi, don’t just see India. Come experience it.

Have you ever watched naan khatai being made like this?

Deep inside Old Delhi, in Parathe Wali Gali, this traditional sweet biscuit is still prepared by hand and baked with burning coal, just like an old fashioned Indian bakery.

What makes moments like this special is that you are not simply tasting something. You are seeing a piece of Delhi’s food culture being made right in front of you.

And yes, my guest tried it too. Needless to say, it did not last very long.

This is the kind of food experience I love sharing with travellers visiting Delhi. Not just the famous places, but the small food traditions, people and stories you might otherwise walk straight past.

If you are visiting Delhi and want to explore the city through its food, come hungry.

India has a different relationship with time.

If someone says, “See you at 7,” arriving at 7 doesn’t always mean the same thing here.

The train leaves when it leaves. Flights have their own deadlines. But dinner with friends? Give it another 15–20 minutes. Someone may still be getting ready, another person might be on the way, and someone else may have stopped to take a call from their mother.

And somehow, everyone still arrives. The conversation starts. The food gets shared. The night unfolds.

Because in India, punctuality can sometimes come after relationships.

It’s not necessarily disrespect for your time. It can be a different hierarchy of values where connection, family, hospitality and the moment in front of you can matter more than watching the clock.

So if you’re travelling to India, leave a little buffer in your plans, especially for social occasions.

Indian Standard Time isn’t just about being late. It’s about understanding the rhythm.

India is best experienced through its food, faith, people, and everyday traditions. 🇮🇳✨

If you’re planning a trip to India and wondering what to eat, what to wear in India, or how to experience Indian culture beyond the usual tourist attractions, start with the places where local life actually happens.

🥘 Delhi Daily Food Tours — discover the flavours, street food, family-run eateries, local markets, and stories behind the food.

🛕 Sikh Temple Tour — experience the warmth of Sikhism, visit a historic gurdwara, learn about seva (selfless service), and understand why the community kitchen is such an important part of Sikh culture.

🍛 Sikh Mega Kitchen Tour — step behind the scenes of a community kitchen and see how thousands of meals can be prepared and served through collective volunteer effort. It’s not simply a food experience — it’s a lesson in community, equality, and generosity.

👗 What to wear in India? For cultural and religious visits, comfortable and modest clothing is always a good choice. At Sikh gurdwaras, you’ll also need to cover your head and remove your shoes before entering the prayer area.

These are the kinds of experiences that let you taste India, understand India, and meet India — one meal, one story, and one shared experience at a time.

Save this for your India trip, and follow along for more Delhi food, Indian culture, Sikh heritage, local experiences, and practical India travel tips. ❤️

One of the most fascinating stops on our Explore Real India Delhi Food Tour is the incredible Mega Kitchen at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Old Delhi.

This is where the tradition of Langar comes to life on a truly massive scale. Every day, thousands of meals are prepared by volunteers and served free of charge to people from all walks of life. As you can see in these photos, the scale of cooking here is remarkable, with huge pots, endless preparation, and a dedicated team working together to serve the community.

A visit to the Langar kitchen offers a unique glimpse into Sikh values of equality, service, and compassion. Watching this operation in action is one of the most memorable cultural experiences in Delhi and a highlight for many of our guests.

Join Explore Real India and discover the stories, food, culture, and hidden gems that make Old Delhi so special.

If you’re visiting India, don’t be afraid to bargain—it’s part of the culture in many markets and street stalls.

A few things that usually work: be friendly, don’t rush into the first price, check a couple of nearby shops, and be willing to walk away if the price doesn’t feel right. More often than not, a better offer comes your way.

Bargaining isn’t about winning or losing—it’s about finding a fair price and enjoying the experience. Have you ever negotiated a great deal while traveling?

Today I learned how to make real Masala Chai with the amazing JD of @artofindiancooking

Thought I'd take a cool picture during class, managed to accidentally sign out of the zoom class trying to take the picture, ended up with a mediocre picture, but was left with an amazing mug of Chai.

Delicious!

It was an honor to host the 🇺🇸US Ambassadors for a private Old Delhi experience. From the historic temples and bustling spice markets to the narrow streets and local metro ride, it was a pleasure sharing the culture, history, and everyday life of this incredible part of the city. #usindia #OldDelhi
