We are so deeply in love.
At 6 weeks old, he is expressive, loves eating, cuddles, and not sleeping at night.

It has taken me some time to announce our baby's birth publicly, as our journey home was more complicated than we had expected. I experienced severe preeclampsia and had to be readmitted days after Kalikasan was born. I am so thankful for the team of doctors, nurses, health-care aides, social workers, the various medical technicians, and antenatal public nursing team who all cared for us with so much skill, empathy, and compassion. From the time I walked through the doors of HSC Women's Hospital to the weeks at home postpartum, baby and I were looked after so thoroughly, and I will never take that for granted.
Thank you to all the friends and family who supported from near and far. Whether it was dropping off a meal or sending us well-wishes, your effort made a huge difference to us.

I am especially grateful for my love-Waldy. He was unwavering in his care for Kalikasan and I as we recovered. I have never had to be so physically and emotionally vulnerable to anyone in my life, and he held it down for our family, leading with patience and love. Solo parenting is hard during the best of times, but it is extremely difficult only days after becoming a Dad for the first time.

With all that behind us, I still can't believe that I'm a Mom. I cry at all the milestones that seem to be zooming by. My tiny baby is quickly growing into a chunky little thing and growing out of all of his first clothes. I can see that parenthood is going to become a bittersweet practice of constantly holding two truths in the same space. With that said, I'm looking forward to all the wonderful things ahead of us ❤️

Valentine’s Day. I thought I’d come up with something significantly more clever but seeing as how my V-Day’s of recent years — have been more lonely than joyous, I figured I’d share a little honest insight and tiny tidbits of wisdom I’ve gained from my revolutions around the sun.

Regarding matters of the romantic heart, if possible lean into the hurt. Embrace the pain and sit with it. Weep, weep deeply and feel all the things. Call your family and friends. Reach out to them when you need, remember that they love you. If you have the capacity, drink tea with your darkness and hold hope that one day that contrast will allow you to saturate your heart and soul with so much love and sunshine that you’ll be grateful for all of the lessons heartache taught you. Work on yourself. That one is worth repeating, work on yourself. Re-learn how to love yourself. Try not to waste time on folks who make you feel like you’re hard to love. Tell your loved ones, you love them. Shoutouts to all of my family and friends who’ve kept me afloat when I felt lost. Y’all helped me get to where I’m at. I love you all. 🙇🏽‍♂️🙏🏾

For those who’ve been following my artistic antics since I started making music… well shoot, really anyone who knows me; knows very well how much a Lover of Love I am. It runs abundant through my music, and even if the particular topic of a song isn’t directly about Love, the theme of Love and connection always remains. Perooooo prior to this past December, my most recent years have been that of rebuilding. So it feels great to know I’ve built a home in my heart for love to flourish. The keys have always been yours. Much love to the hometown crowd of #Ketchikan #Alaska. Crazy to think that 20 years ago I would fall deeply in love with a culture rooted in struggle, which would ultimately lead me back to my own roots and sense of identity. Shoutouts to all the folks that made this dope night happen! Much love to mah day zero fam @archieologic ! Holding it down on the 1’s and 2’s and for helping set up the evening. Oh man, tfw when you go to practice old songs but it’s been a looooooong time since you visited them, not to mention simultaneously working on a handful of lyrics… causes you to sometimes forget stuff lolol. Much love to mi hermano @romeopmusic for his patience and always making it fun. Got a remix of this particular cut with my soul sister @iammisstheo on the chorus that is quite the musical morsel.

DMX’s “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” was one of the first albums I bought with my own money— I think it was 5th grade?? My Mom said I couldn’t buy it but my Tita said it was cool. This album was mah jam during recess before I would proceed to dominate the tether ball circle and kickball diamond. Then his second album dropped. Then his third. All of which played a pivotal role in the development of my self-awareness and curiosity for other people’s cultures and more importantly, other people’s struggles.
