Valentine’s Day. I thought I’d come up with something significantly more clever but seeing as how my V-Day’s of recent years — have been more lonely than joyous, I figured I’d share a little honest insight and tiny tidbits of wisdom I’ve gained from my revolutions around the sun.

Regarding matters of the romantic heart, if possible lean into the hurt. Embrace the pain and sit with it. Weep, weep deeply and feel all the things. Call your family and friends. Reach out to them when you need, remember that they love you. If you have the capacity, drink tea with your darkness and hold hope that one day that contrast will allow you to saturate your heart and soul with so much love and sunshine that you’ll be grateful for all of the lessons heartache taught you. Work on yourself. That one is worth repeating, work on yourself. Re-learn how to love yourself. Try not to waste time on folks who make you feel like you’re hard to love. Tell your loved ones, you love them. Shoutouts to all of my family and friends who’ve kept me afloat when I felt lost. Y’all helped me get to where I’m at. I love you all. 🙇🏽‍♂️🙏🏾

For those who’ve been following my artistic antics since I started making music… well shoot, really anyone who knows me; knows very well how much a Lover of Love I am. It runs abundant through my music, and even if the particular topic of a song isn’t directly about Love, the theme of Love and connection always remains. Perooooo prior to this past December, my most recent years have been that of rebuilding. So it feels great to know I’ve built a home in my heart for love to flourish. The keys have always been yours. Growing up in Alaska, it took me waaaay too long to embrace my Filipino heritage. It wasn’t until high school, when I fell in love with Hip Hop and Black Culture that I started to reframe my perspective and began embracing my roots. Questioning my identity and existence in a colonized land. Unfolding the layers of self-hatred and healing from the trauma of being a 1st generation immigrant, which then subsequently transformed into a love and prideful connection to a Motherland so so far away.

After B-Boying, (Breakdancing) the 2nd element I was introduced to was graffiti— the art of getting up, blasting your name to be seen, not only in a way for recognition but to let others know that, “Hey! We in this struggle too!” So to rock for a huge crowd and tag my name on the walls of SoBs is truly a fucking blessing. I remember looking at pictures of the venue after searching on Yahoo and Geocities on dial up, hearing helllllla songs mentioning SoBs. Feels fantastic man. Still high from the vibes of the tour. .

I’ve emerged from this tour with an electric new energy, new flow, and new tenacity to make that dope shit and represent for my peoples, in order for us to better connect with all peoples. LETS GOGGGHHHHH!
