Art Over Hate
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
On this third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack, we remember all those who were killed and pray for healing for the survivors and all whose lives were forever changed.

Last weekend, we were honored to host Guy Gilboa Dalal, one of the final hostages to be released by Hamas, and his brother Gal to share their deeply personal story of resilience, survival and healing through storytelling and music. Craig, Guy, and Gal each sit in a chair on the stage in front of a screen that reads "Guy and Gal Gilboa-Dalal: Soundtrack to Survival" by @artoverhatecollective

The mural on the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center was created by artists, community members, allies and children. Its attempted destruction is an act of arrogance and hate. It will be repainted and made even more beautiful. We commit ourselves to working with the PJTC and any other community of love, faith and hope to beautify their spaces. by @artoverhatecollective

This morning, we learned that the community mural at our Altadena Drive campus had been vandalized with swastikas and other antisemitic graffiti.

Created after the Eaton Fire and in response to an earlier act of antisemitism, the mural became something much bigger. It grew into a symbol of hope, resilience, and solidarity - not just for PJTC, but for the entire Altadena community.

The mural was brought to life through the vision and generosity of many. Muralist Miriam Hellmann (@offwrldmurals), the Art over Hate Collective (@artoverhatecollective), the Sparks of Kindness Youth Fund, our religious school students, volunteers, and community members all helped transform a wall once marked by hate into a work of healing and beauty. We are also deeply grateful to Jewish media producer Jeremy Goldscheider (@jeremygolscheider), whose beautiful short documentary captured that journey from beginning to end.

Today, we are deeply saddened and outraged by this act, but we refuse to let it define our community. We are working closely with law enforcement and our security partners as the incident is investigated and as we determine the next steps to restore the mural.

Thank you to everyone who has already reached out with messages of love and support. Your kindness reminds us that we are never alone.

If you have information about the incident, please contact the detective in charge at hhdoherty@lasd.org. #togetheragainstantisemitism #lovewins #jewishcommunity #standagainsthate #stopantisemitism @monicajlevine by @artoverhatecollective

After burning down in the Eaton Fires, the @pasadenajewishtempleandcenter was further vandalized with antisemitic graffiti and terrifying messages.

PJTC and Sparks of Kindness Youth reached out to us to help beautify the Center. They asked us to make something not only for them but for the larger Pasadena community as well. Our goal was to create something that would stand in place of the Synagogue while it is being rebuilt and which would unify the Jewish people and the larger community. In collaboration with @jeremygoldscheider and the Sparks of Kindness Youth Fund, we are proud to have @offwrldmurals painting a giant work on the site of @pasadenajewishtempleandcenter which burnt down during the Los Angeles fires and which was later vandalized by antisemitic graffiti. Miriam is painting a stained glass window incorporating elements of both Jewish tradition and the Pasadena community. We look forward to the community unveiling in May. by @artoverhatecollective

How does post-trauma look?

For many, it lives in the body- a silent weight carried from moments of war and terror.
Reconnecting with oneself after such a life-altering event is a journey of reclaiming not just skin, but a sense of agency.

Through the @healinginkorg project, initiated by @artoverhatecollective in partnership with AFN, we created a sanctuary in NYC for survivors to transform their scars. By turning “invisible wounds” into visible symbols of strength, participants found a safe space to release pain and, for some, the courage to share their story for the very first time.

We are deeply honored and grateful to the talented tattoo artists who volunteered their time and soul to help our community continue their healing journey.

Last week, we gathered for a powerful evening of connection, healing, and self-expression in collaboration with @healinginkorg

Through the art of tattooing, stories that are often carried quietly found a new form of voice. For many, these tattoos became more than ink on skin. They became symbols of resilience, remembrance, and the courage to keep moving forward.

At American Friends of NATAL, we believe that healing takes many shapes. Sometimes it begins with a conversation, sometimes with community, and sometimes with a small, permanent reminder that even after trauma, the story continues.

We are deeply grateful to our partners at Healing Ink and to everyone who joined us and shared their journey with such openness and strength. Photos from a collaborative event between American Friends of NATAL and Healing Ink. Participants sit with tattoo artists in a calm, supportive environment as they receive meaningful tattoos. The tattoos serve as personal symbols of resilience, remembrance, and healing from trauma. The space is warm and intimate, with moments of conversation, connection, and quiet reflection throughout the evening. taken in New York City by @artoverhatecollective
