In this week's episode of the ArtTactic Podcast, host Adam Green is joined by writer and art historian James Cahill, author of the new book The Beverly Hills Housewife: Hockney's Californian Muse and the World Beyond the Pool, and LA-based collector Justine Freeman, granddaughter of Betty Freeman, the book's subject. James explains why Hockney's 1966–67 portrait of Betty was a landmark in his career. It was his first portrait of a named individual in more than a decade, and it marked his turn toward the precise, realist style that followed. He also traces how a visit to photograph Betty's pool began a 40-year friendship. Justine shares memories of growing up around her grandmother: the painting in the dinette, the Dan Flavins in nearly every room, and trips to the opera to hear experimental music. She also recalls the salons where Betty championed composers and hosted guests like Hockney and Robert Wilson. The conversation closes with how Betty's example shapes Justine's own collecting today, from befriending the artists she supports to championing women artists. #arttactic #arttacticpodcast #adamgreenartadvisory #davidhockney #bettyfreeman #jamescahill #justinefreeman #beverylyhillshousewife by @arttactic

Women collectors are not a niche within the art world.

They are one of its most consequential forces, and one of its least understood.

The findings of the STELLA Report Edition 01 offer a closer look at collecting as both an art-market activity and a form of cultural participation.

THE STELLA REPORT — EDITION 1
WOMEN COLLECTORS SHAPING CULTURE

Is now Available.

For years, we felt that what women collectors were actually doing and building was not being fully explored or documented. This report exists because of that gap.

While the art market has been extensively analysed through financial, transactional and institutional lenses, far less attention has been given to understanding women collectors as cultural actors in their own right — particularly in relation to motivations, values, support structures and evolving models of patronage.

The STELLA Report exists to document this shift, establish a reference point for the years ahead, and provide a means of observing its implications.

THE STELLA REPORT - EDITION 1
WOMEN COLLECTORS SHAPING CULTURE

One day to go.

A collection is never simply a record of taste.
It gives form to a vision of art and to what deserves a place within the cultural record.

The STELLA Report turns to the women collectors shaping that record and their influence across the wider art world.

Launching 22 September 2026.

Be among the first to discover it.

In this week's episode of the ArtTactic Podcast, host Adam Green (@adamgreenartadvisory) welcomes back Richard Polsky, founder of Richard Polsky Art Authentication and author of the new book I Sold Alice Cooper's Andy Warhol, available now for pre-order. Richard recalls buying a dollar sign painting directly from Warhol's studio in 1986 and meeting the artist shortly before his death. He then tells the story at the heart of the book, a red Little Electric Chair painting bought for $2,500 in 1972 as a birthday gift for Alice Cooper, which was rolled up in a tube and forgotten in his garage for decades. Richard walks us through how he authenticated the Warhol and why works outside the catalogue raisonné are such a hard sell at the major auction houses. He also explains how a fully contracted Bonhams consignment, with a $2.5 to $3.5 million estimate, fell apart just before the sale. He closes with an update on his authentication practice, including the surge in Basquiat inquiries and what the closure of artist authentication boards has meant for collectors. #adamgreenartadvisory #arttactic #arttacticpodcast #artmarket #andywarhol by @arttactic

For years, the South Asian art scene has been measured through rising auction prices. According to the ArtTactic Global Art Market Outlook report published in January this year, 53% of surveyed experts believe the market will continue its ascent, up from 32% last year. However, the story today is whether high prices and strong market sentiment can be translated into a more sustainable ecosystem beneath them.

@aveevadhillon_ takes us on a journey to find out where opportunities and risks lie.
