The art of the human hand in combination with mechanical spectacle.

The Complexity-01 calibre is a manufacture movement. Its 287 components and 44 jewels are the result of thousands of hours of engineering to resolve the challenges posed by the double inclined tourbillon: dynamic balance, energy transmission through the differential, precision maintained in every position. The inclined tourbillon of the Complexity follows in the lineage of Eric Coudray, father of the gyrotourbillon and one of the world's foremost specialists in multi-axis mechanisms, while the Cônillon finds its historical origin in the research of Andrew Holden Potter around 1860. A technical legitimacy few manufactures can claim.

The Angle of the Angels: The 165-Year Quest for the Inclined Tourbillon

Wei Koh, President of the GPHG Jury and one of the most renowned and influential voices in contemporary watch journalism, salutes Yvan Arpa, Éric Coudray and Purtec for “courageously writing the next chapter of inclined tourbillons.”.

For ArtyA, an independent, family-owned Manufacture founded in Geneva in 2009, this recognition matters. The Complexity is the most ambitious expression of its three pillars: Astounding Complications, Unique Materials, Pure Architecture.

In the Complexity, a single barrel feeds a differential that shares torque equally between two Cônillons at 12 and 6 o'clock. Each rotates in 30 seconds, in opposite directions and on different inclined axes. The differential then averages their rates into one display of time, so the deviation of one is offset by the other.

The @artyawatch ArtyA Complexity was already a remarkable piece of mechanical watchmaking. Now, the Complexity Métiers d’Art brings an entirely new level of craftsmanship to its double Cônillon architecture.

In Geneva, @constant.kw meets with ArtyA founder Yvan Arpa and his son Stan to explore the latest evolution of the watch, which places two inclined Cônillon tourbillons at 12 and six o’clock, connected by a differential that mechanically averages their rates.

The new edition retains that extraordinary mechanical arrangement while introducing a fully reworked dial and movement. Hand engraving, hammering, shot blasting and polished bevels create an intricate play of light and texture, all visible through the sculptural sapphire case and its two optical domes.

Constant also takes a closer look at the 35mm Luminity Wavy Micro-Rotor and the interchangeable coloured O-rings that bring a fresh dimension of personalisation to ArtyA’s sapphire watches.

@artyawatch Luminity Timascus, made exclusively for @watchesforela

The case is TiDamas; Grade 2 and Grade 5 titanium, heat-treated to create shimmering, one-of-a-kind colour patterns across. The dial is hand-crafted enamel in a deep blue, skeletonized to reveal the chronograph movement beneath. Inside beats the Swiss automatic Valjoux 7750, with a 48-hour power reserve and a decorated rotor visible through the sapphire caseback.

ArtyA has supported this cause since its very first edition in 2024. This year, they’re back with something even bolder.
