Looking back at my recent reads, I basically mood read the majority of the time.
These are three things I've learned from that time.

1. The “right” book at the wrong time will still feel wrong.
It doesn’t mean the book is bad, it just wasn’t what my brain or heart needed at that time.

2. Mood reading kept me reading when life felt heavy and life felt very heavy last year!
Comfort is so much more important than challenge when you’re overwhelmed.

3. I actually read more when I stopped forcing myself.
Freedom created consistency for me - by not having to follow reading lists or challenges, limiting buddy reads and ignoring the call of to-be-read piles, I picked up what I knew I'd enjoy, and thus read lots.

I'd also add:
You’re allowed to put down a book that isn’t working for you right now.
Your next read doesn’t have to match your last one.
A reading slump might simply mean you need a different kind of story.
Rereading a favourite is not wasting your reading time.
Audiobooks, ebooks and physical books can all belong in the same reading life.
You don’t need to read what you should read, you can read what feels good.
Sometimes the perfect book is the one that meets you exactly where you are.
So, if your current read is gathering dust while you keep thinking about something else, this is your permission to follow the mood.

The TBR will still be there. Probably looking slightly more enormous, but there nonetheless.

Are you a mood reader, or do you usually stick to one book and one genre at a time? by @aruralreader

I was sitting at my desk, minding my own business, when I turned around and realised there is now a tower of unread books beside my computer big enough to have its own postal address.
And look, I know what you’re thinking: “That’s just one pile.” Correct. That is one pile. Of many. Many others. Can't say I'm not a dedicated reader 😉 (or buyer, anyway...)

At this stage, my TBR isn’t a reading list; it’s a long-term commitment. It watches me open BookStagram and write about books. It watches me say, “I really don’t need anything new.” It watches me add another book to the basket anyway.

I like to think it’s not judging me. It’s simply biding its time, knowing it is wanted, and I'll eventually reach for it...

Tell me: how many books are in your current TBR pile , and be honest, because I need the validation! by @aruralreader

Want the drama of a thriller and the tension of a romance? Look no more.

Head Under Water by Kiersten Modglin is a romantic thriller where family dynamics war with romantic feelings, and a family death may not be as straightforward as it seems...

I'm part of the creator campaign for the book over on TikTok but wanted to share about it here too (thanks to @thepictureofromance for having me on board!).

Holding Ground by Piper Rayne

The first in their newest series, based around the Mercer family in Echo Lake, Piper Rayne do what they do best - small town, finding yourself while finding love, lots of tension with lots more heart, and wonderful family dynamics, as well as a brilliant cast of secondary characters.

I've been on a @authorpiperrayne binge for the last number of months, and had only recently read the Greene Family series, so was thrilled to be back (somewhat) in their world meeting Emilia, daughter of Jed and Molly from My Sister's Flirty Friend.

Loved the audio of this (and thank you to @valentine_pr_ for the audiobook) and all views are absolutely my own 💝 by @aruralreader

Just Checking on these bookish reminders for anyone who reads for comfort, fun and all the feels .

A gentle little check-in for the readers who are balancing work, family, busy schedules and a constantly growing TBR, while trying not to take their reading life too seriously.

There’s no single right way to be a reader, and your reading life doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Consider this your sign to choose the book you actually want to read, protect your reading joy and ignore the imaginary rules.

How my brain sounds trying to juggle teaching, choosing books, parenting, reviewing, filming content, listening to audiobooks, keeping up with my TBR, listing things on Vinted and remembering to eat something other than snacks…
All while insisting I’m “actually quite organised.” 🤡
I'm always trying to fit reading around real life, sometimes that means a physical book, sometimes an audiobook, and sometimes rereading the same comfort read because I have no emotional capacity for anything else.
What are you currently trying to juggle? 👇 by @aruralreader

Welcome to the side of Instagram where we’re old enough to have back pain but young enough to still be emotionally ruined by a fictional man.

A cosy corner for fellow millennial readers who remember dial-up internet, grew up on Bosco and Saved By The Bell and now cope with adult life by buying books they may or may not read immediately.

Expect book recommendations (often romance, but also literary fiction, Irish writers, thrillers and series), nostalgic reads, honest reviews, comfort books and stories that make you laugh, cry or forget what you were supposed to be doing.

Physical books, ebooks and audiobooks all count here, because we have responsibilities now, and sometimes reading happens while we’re driving, walking or folding laundry.

Which book has recently made you feel like your teenage self again?

Recently Read and Loved 💞🤠
"Colt" is the first in @jessicapauthor new ranch series "Double U Ranch". Taking place in the same world as her previous "Lucky River Ranch" series, this new series follows the Wallace family who we have already met (and loved!), in the book Ryder.
This series starts with eldest brother Colton "Colt" Wallace, grumpy single dad and family ranch foreman so is hella reluctant to allow anyone into his life, especially not Lainey who has been hired by his father to help with marketing the ranch.
As is expected of Peterson's novels now, tis spicy (her ranch lads have a real penchant for smooching outdoors and being tied up 👀) and the banter is great. It's more insta-attraction than insta-love, and half the fun of this story is them knowing they're giving in, and allowing themselves to get attached, while trying to convince themselves they aren't.
I listened to the audiobook (thank you @valentine_pr_ for the advance copy 💞 All opinions are my own of course!) and Vanessa Edwin and Aiden Snow do a great job of bringing Lainey and Colt to life.
I eagerly await the next one already! by @aruralreader
