Title: Nobody’s Girl
Author: Virginia Roberts Giuffre
—-——————————————
Star: ⭐⭐⭐⭐️⭐️
———————————————
In this book, Virginia looks back on her horrific childhood up until her suicide. She details how she was abused as a child, trafficked and put into a self help programme for teens, she escaped but ended up being sex trafficked and being abused by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. At 19, she escaped that situation and made it her life’s mission to advocate for abuse survivors and bring perpetrators to justice.

Now as a 37 year old wife and mother, she reflects back on stories that have haunted her everyday of her life through the lenses of being a survivor and taking power back in her life. Her childhood and early teenage life is littered with failures by adults, trauma and moments that will change the trajectory of her life.

While reading this book, I felt profound sadness about how this young child with a love for horses, was used and abused by those closest to her. This book will stay with you for years to come.

📚 We don’t care if you don’t like what we read 📚

⭐️ We absolutely love this new trend on Bookstagram and we’ve seen so many people in this community speak out the last few weeks about how they feel pressured to read certain authors or books.

⭐️ We love indie authors, established authors; different genres from fantasy to horror, romantasy to thrillers. Stories that grab us and hold our attention are our favs!

⭐️ We always support people to read what you like, despite what this silly algorithm says! Read at your own pace, enjoy reading like you did when you were a kid and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

⭐️ We do acknowledge that not every author or book might be your cup of tea but we say try everything once! You never know you might find your favourite book inside a little bookshop or at your local library!

We’re always here with our honest reviews and our DMs are always open for book chats ✌️💕

🥐 BOOK REVIEW 🥐

Almost Life by Kiran Millwood-Hargrave
Published by @picadorbooks

One chance encounter can define a lifetime

Erica and Laure meet on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur in Paris, 1978. Erica is a student, relishing her first summer abroad before beginning university at home in England. Laure is studying for her Ph.D. at the Sorbonne, drinking and smoking far too much, and sleeping with a married woman.

The moment the two women meet the spark is undeniable. But their encounter turns into far more than a summer of love. It is the beginning of a relationship that will define their lives and every decision they have yet to make. Spanning cities, decades and heartbreaks, fate brings them within touching distance again and again.

But will they be brave enough to seize the life they truly want?

#mythoughts

Oh this is a book full of yearning! A chance meeting in France, during teenage years when Erica is just finding her independence, sparks a lifetime of longing! The tension between Erica and Laure is so palpable throughout this book and at times I was rooting for them, and at others I wasn’t. I much preferred the character of Erica to Laure for some reason… The settings in this book are also kind of the stars of the show at times and the descriptions of Paris are so transporting. I also really liked the parts set on the North Norfolk coast, which I know fairly well and love!

I have to say I preferred reading the text of this one. I slipped in to the audiobook during a long drive for work and found the French accents kind of over-done and a bit cringe 😬 😂 The writing was so beautiful and I’m not sure the audiobook really did the book justice.

This was a wonderful buddy read and I think we all really enjoyed this one 🩷 A beautiful story of love, friendship and the hard decisions we have to make for others rather than putting ourselves first…

❓Have you read this yet? Is it on your radar?

Title: Fever Dream
Author: Elsie Silver
————————————
Star: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
————————————
We meet bull rider Emmett, aiming for championships against his rival Theo but first he has to compete in a dating show to win money to keep his family’s home from despair. We meet Julia, Theo’s sister, who’s been brought back to Emerald Lake for work on the dating show.

Oma, Opa, Evan, Parker and the rest of the Brandt family know who Emmett really is; a softie with a big heart, despite what’s been said about him. When she starts the show, he meets Julia whom he helped to save years ago. Over the weeks, they hang out more and fall for each other; despite warnings from the show runner and the fact that he’s in a dating show. Theo and Emmett have standoff moments but they both care for Julia in different ways. It a book or will they or won’t they!

The ending was so perfect because it wasn’t perfect! I won’t give it away but it was full of thrilling moments, enemies to lovers and a small town vibe. Parker was definitely one of my favourite characters and I hope there’s more of her in this series. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Elsie Silver’s work.
