Our film 'A Good Question' is screening at BAFTA Qualifying Bolton International Film Festival in September. The film also screened at Doc Edge NZ and Fipa Doc in France. It was programmed twice in the same week in July by the brilliant @vedikakushalappa and @yingdiyin at @palhouseldn and @thewomensmuseum . It was a joy to have the possibility of approaching work in an ethnographic way years after my sociology training. @sarapsaini had the foresight to find the best site of enquiry for us and navigated the tenous ground of access with such skill. Arushi is a cinematographer from India, based in London and an alumna of the National Film and Television School’s MA Cinematography programme. Her work spans award-winning films, including projects recognised with a BAFTA, HollyShorts Best Student Award, RTS nominations, and screenings on Film4. She has also shot films for BFI Network, BBC, The Guardian, L’Oréaland Marie Claire. In 2022, Arushi received the ARRI Award for Cinematography at the Chanel x BIFF Asian Film Academy in Busan. More recently, she shot the Sky Arts documentary Pauline Black: A 2 Tone Story, which screened at more than 20 international festivals, including BFI London Film Festival and CPH:DOX, before a nationwide Odeon release and Sky broadcast. The film has since earned an RTS nomination and was longlisted for the BIFAs. As part of the Hatch x NBCUniversal Future Cinematographers programme, Arushi stepped up into high-end television, shadowing before operating and serving as 2nd Unit Director of Photography on Episode 6 of The Capturefor BBC and Heyday Television. The Future Cinematographers programme is a Hatch Films initiative in partnership with NBCU to support professionals to take the next step up to leading on larger projects. Through training, mentorship, networking and the opportunity for paid placements on NBCU shows, the cohort will receive support for 12 months. #futurecinematographers by @arushi.chugh

I am very late to the party but I want to post about a project that I worked on extensively last year and has since it’s completion gone from strength to strength. Pauline Black: A 2 Tone Story is a fascinating portrait of the pioneering two-tone stalwart, Pauline Black. It is an intimate look at the path breaking ways in which Pauline excelled within the music industry. It also reflects on historical and contemporary British racial politics. I particularly enjoy documentary projects where one has the time and luxury to slowly build rapport over, which is made even better when you meet someone as spectacular as Pauline. I was endlessly amazed by her dedication to her beliefs, her casual charisma and the boundless energy she floods a room with. This Sky Arts commissioned documentary was an official selection at over 20 film festivals including the BFI London Film Festival 2024, Doc N Roll Film Festival, CPH: DOX 2025 to name a few. I am so pleased to finally talk about what’s been cooking behind the scenes lately. I am part of a cohort of 8 cinematographers selected for the ‘Future Cinematographers’ program initiated in collaboration with @nbcuniversal , @hatchfilms and @nbculaunch We have had some incredible masterclasses with absolute experts like @ruairi_o_brien_isc_bsc @ebenbolter @olancollardy @didiontheroll @katie__player @rogerrussell_ @davidprocterdop Also, as part of the development program, I had the opportunity to shadow @davidrom_dop and @rasmus_arrildt on Season 3 of @bbc thriller The Capture produced by Heyday Films and UIS Stoked to be a part of the program and extremely thankful for the teams at Hatch, NBCU and NBCU launch teams. A Good Question Was a pleasure to write the music for this wonderful and moving documentary Since Britain’s colonization of India, migration has reshaped Punjab, leaving homes crowned with colloquial water tank sculptures—planes, tractors, animals—as striking emblems of diasporic success. Through sculptor Davinder’s craft and his own emigration plans, the film explores migration’s enduring socio-political and emotional impact.
