From the greats of Indian theatre who once graced this stage including Bal Gandharva, Master Dinanath, Bapu Pendharkar, Jyotsna Bhole and many others, to the thespians of today, theatre has remained a constant part of our story.

Over the last decade, our stage has continued to welcome theatre in all its forms, from regional languages to theatre festivals and contemporary works.

At the Mumbai launch of ‘Absolute Jafar’, Sarnath Banerjee and Kiran Rao explored the various themes, characters, stories and places in the book, rooted in the question of what it means to call a place home.

Imaad Shah brought selected passages from the book to life through voice, sound and music, while Sarnath’s artworks from Project 88 added another visual layer to the world of Absolute Jafar.

The people depicted on the dome ceilings are not just decorative details, they reflect the very things the venue was built around: theatre, literature, music and the performing arts. Among them are William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, Lord Byron and John Keats, among others.
