POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Welcome to our newest Greenbrier Valley members! 🎉

We recently hosted a Trailhead orientation gathering to introduce our newest arrivals to the ins and outs of Ascend WV. We also celebrated members marking two years with the program.

That’s part of the beauty of Ascend. There are always new members joining the experience and seasoned members who can share what they’ve learned and help welcome the next group in.

What does a weekend well spent outdoors in WV look like? 🏕️

For members using our Discovery Pass, it looked a lot like camping at Lake Sherwood.

Tents went up, trails got hiked, paddles hit the water, marshmallows got roasted and plenty of fun was had.

S’more Ascend adventures, please! by @ascendwv

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: MEET EXPERIENCE COORDINATOR COTE WOMACK ↓

For our New River Gorge crew, the Ascend experience is all about community, camaraderie... and Cote!

As the Experience Coordinator for the New River Gorge, Cote Womack helps members feel welcome, meet new friends and find their next West Virginia adventure.

Adventure has always been part of Cote's story. He grew up with a dad who ran a rock climbing and whitewater business. Cote later became a Natural Resources Specialist (Park Ranger) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working at Summersville, Sutton, and Burnsville Lakes, before moving into a career that gave him more time with his growing family. In 2024, he brought his love of nature and the outdoors to Ascend.

More about Cote:

→ What makes the New River Gorge special to him: The welcoming people who “make you feel right at home” and the shared passion many locals have for the outdoors.

→ His favorite part of the job: Welcoming new West Virginians and introducing them to some of the incredible outdoor experiences West Virginia has to offer.

→ His local must-do: Volunteer with one of the area’s many great organizations.

→ His favorite Ascend memory: Taking members into the Monongahela National Forest to cut down their own Christmas trees. “Totally legit through a permit,” he assures us.

Join Ascend WV. Your bucket-list West Virginia adventure might already be on Cote's calendar. 🌲 by @ascendwv

You moved to West Virginia. Now you have to go pawpaw picking. We don’t make the rules. 🤷‍♀️

With pawpaw season upon us, our Eastern Panhandle crew recently celebrated with a ride along the C&O Canal and a pawpaw foraging experience.

In case you aren’t familiar with these local favorites, pawpaws are native fruits known for their sweet, tropical flavor and creamy texture.

The question is: What should we make with our haul? Pawpaw bread? Ice cream? Smoothies? Drop your suggestions below. 👇 by @ascendwv

For members who recently arrived in West Virginia, this is where it starts to feel official. Our member orientation events are a chance to learn more about the program, get questions answered and, most importantly, start making connections with the people who will be part of their Ascend experience.

We recently did just that with our newest members in the Eastern Panhandle. Welcome to the community!

When we say we explore West Virginia, we mean all of it. 🔦

Some of our Ascend members recently ventured into the Sinks of Gandy in the Monongahela National Forest, where Gandy Creek flows underground for nearly 3,000 feet.

Some Ascend adventures are a little more underground than others. 😉👀

After-hours pickleball? Yes, please. 🏓

Our Greenbrier Valley members couldn’t wait to trade their laptops for paddles and enjoy a little friendly competition on the court.

Tell us in the comments: Is pickleball your kind of after-work activity?

Did you know purpose-driven events are a special part of the Ascend WV experience? Our New River Gorge crew recently teamed up with the Fayette Trail Coalition to improve the trails they enjoy at Wolf Creek Park, helping to replace wooden bridges on the trails.

It’s all about experiencing West Virginia while making a positive impact along the way. 💚 by @ascendwv
