A little house sat up on a high street in Echo Park, quiet and unassuming but its charm still caught my eye.

Maybe it’s because I was on my 10th rage-drive around the block trying to find parking for some trendy food spot, but I pulled over the second I saw this and snapped a picture of this textural wonder — and then went about my day thinking about this little gem.

It’s a bit worn at the edges but I can tell it’s loved - and now also by me. Almost worth the drive over there 😆😆😝😝

Angelino Heights has some amaaaazing places. I’ll try to pepper more in when I have time to kill.

House of Pies feels like it belongs on the side of a highway in Kansas, yet here we are on a trendy street corner in LA it exists in a timeless dimension.

The sign always makes me smile, and immediately creates a craving for my mother’s pies I grew up with.

A sprinkle of nostalgia, and a HUGE selection of pies welcome you if you make it over to this Los Feliz staple.

Side Pie was one of those neighborhood staple pizzerias.

There for you on the cold nights, summer evenings or whenever you didn’t wanna cook. They had a killer back patio area for the fam and a cooler always stocked with chilly beverages on the go. 😍

I’ve painted them three times now because I never quite nailed their vibe until this last go. (I’m oddly a perfectionist 😅

The building itself was as cool and iconic as their pizzas.

Did you have a favorite pizza?

I haven’t heard about a come back or new reiteration of the place, but if you have feel free to give us all an update 🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️

One of my first loves, when I moved to LA decades ago was driving down the street and catching glimpse of a rainbow umbrella because it harkened that a delicious treat was in my near future.

Even my kids know that if mom sees a fruit vendor, she’s likely to pull a fast-and-furious move to get to them and buy a huge plate of fruit.

I love them all and will probably end up doing a whole series someday of my truly favorite thing in this town.

They are the heart and soul of this city. Working on the hot sun so us very fortunate ones can drive down the road and get coconuts delivered in our windows, or fresh cut mango right after a hot hike.

A staple of Silverlake -that scared us all years ago with that hand written sign that said they were shutting down - is alive and flourishing and thank goodness for that!!

Serving Cuban pastries and strong cafecitos for over 50 years and hopefully 50+ more!!

@cafetropicalsunset is much loved ❤️❤️❤️

The Little Red Hen was a family-owned delicious breakfast joint that served generations of Altadenan’s since its first owner moved from Mississippi to California in 1972.

Some favorites were the blueberry pancakes (and French toast,) the catfish and grits, shrimp and grits, and a piping hot morning coffee and side of bacon.

Heartbreakingly, It was lost in the Eaton Fire but it sounds like @thelittleredhencoffeeshop is finding ways to support their beloved community with hopes of rebuilding someday.

Last night I was teaching my boy how to ride a bike at ‘zip line park’ as we call it- near the edge of Griffith Park.

The sun was setting and somehow a tiny sign for pizza caught his eye. 🍕

I didn’t think it would be open since it was a Sunday evening, but lo and behold, around the end of the tennis building was a guy making pizza from scratch.

He hand rolled the dough, added sauce and slid that pizza into the fire, to create the most magical little moment for us.

It was perfectly crunchy and delicious, with hot stringy cheese that made my kid laugh. We just enjoyed sitting there until the sun was finally gone from the sky - an immediately memorable moment at the end of our summer.

If you make it to the Griffith park recreational center playground, try the pizza, it’s oddly magical.

Never have I driven past a place and wanted to immediately pull over and shove my face in some food, as I have with @kuyalord_la

There’s just something so enticing about this food joint, and I just love its cheeky colors.

I haven’t sunken my teeth into their Lechón yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

If you can’t tell, I love tiny places where flavor is their super power, and I can tell Kuya Lord is gonna be one of my faves.

Otomisan is one of those places that feels lifted right out of Japan, but it’s actually the oldest Japanese restaraunt in LA.

I’m so glad it’s stayed alive all these years😍😍

If you can’t read Japanese, the facade calls to old school- hand painted menu items and reads
UDON- SUKIYAKI - SUSHI - TENPURA
So you would know there’s alittle bit for everyone there.

Today is my daughter’s 10th birthday.

She turned me into a mom.

Has been my creative muse since her first breath.

And I can’t truly regret any choice in my life since it brought her to me.

Happy Birthday to my baby burrito, my first born, and minion number 1.

And now I realize it’s been since 2024 since I’ve drawn her and need to rectify that asap 😆

Was thinking about Fry’s lately and how much I loved walking into this air-conditioned behemoth of a store.

Like they don’t make cool store fronts like this anymore 😭

Their checkouts mighta been a nightmare, but they had every gadget I ever needed!

I’ll I juat add it to my little book of lost places around LA. 💔
