I try not to be too dramatic when talking about business and my career… but yesterday I was telling someone about the last 10 years in real estate and it occurred to me that exactly a year ago I made a big decision about my career. I flew to Salt Lake City was out there with Dustin Brohm, who is a coach and one of my mentors. He was holding an event for team leaders. Dustin being at REAL Broker I assumed the event was a “recruitment magnet”. Figured that was the upsell at the very end and when we were talking about the event over the phone, I mentioned that expectation to him. What he said, surprise the hell out of me: Not only was it not that. But REAL would have his ass if he flew a bunch of agents out to his hometown to pitch his brokerage. When I arrived, there were 30 or so agents in a room; most of them were from Real. “Here we go” I said. Here’s what happened after three days at the event: NOT ONE agent tried to pitch me on coming over to Real. Not a single one. I remember calling my wife and telling her what a breath of fresh air it was to not be recruited. People were genuinely curious about me & my business. In fact, my brokerage at the time didn’t really come up. The people were curious about me and my team. Seven days later, I decided with the help of Matt Marino and Dustin, to move my license from my old brokerage to REAL… and I have never looked back. I can say with 1000% confidence that this was the best move of my real estate career thus far. The abundance, the ecosystem, the people, the high competency, and access to everyone and anyone in the company… even the CEO if I need… this still amazes me. I am not a “recruiter”. But one of my purposes on this planet is to open up opportunities for others… Now that I’m a year in… I might start telling my realtor friends about it. Realtors: Never forget that WE are the brand. I told myself I needed a certain brand for years. This was a mistake. The internet changed everything. You’re free… if you choose to be. Lots of things are easier once u simply start. So many clients are unsure as to where to begin… so we have prepared all kinds of tools so that it allows our people to demystify the process including this BUYERS QUESTIONNAIRE. It creates a PROCESS that activates the part of the brain that controls real estate. Everyone has this part of the brain at their disposal… a good real estate team shows the client where the “ON” button is. #asksethanything #movingsucks #theslgteam by @asksethanything

Lot of really fun convos over the weekend with my clients and fellow agents curious about where the SLG Team is headed. Some funny guesses… some last ditch recruitment efforts (we interviewed at 4 different brokers and I’m humbled by it ultimately 🙏 ) and finally a lot of well wishes from so many of you! Words cannot expresse how much I appreciate everyone’s support of my continued real estate journey! So excited to make my announcement here on this fine Monday morning! Our new brokerage immediately felt like home and we look forward to many years of prosperity at REAL. Lots of new beginnings for sure! LFG! I am not a recruiter by any stretch, but I am a businessman. If you trust me at all & my opinions, then you’ll know that I sat with every brokerage under the sun. Big and small, national and local. When I looked at REAL, my search ended. (And never resumed) The truth is that any competent agent can be successful anywhere it’s just a matter of how much money they wanna keep and what ecosystem they will thrive in the most. Almost 2 years in and literally everything that this company says it was, it has been. A month ago, this company also turned the tables on the entire real estate industry by acquiring REMAX. The real estate agent owes a debt of gratitude to REMAX and their leadership over the years, but it didn’t make sense to me to hang my license with a company that simply was not profitable any longer. The truth is that most brokerages make no money and live off the backs of their agents. Certainly most don’t GIVE money back to their agents. (REAL gives 60%+ of its revenue directly back to its agents. And so as consolidations continue, do you want to be part of a company that is profitable and acquiring other companies or would you rather be acquired via oppress release from the Wall Street Journal?
