Fly fishing with @aspenoutfitters.co was one of the highlights of my fall trip to @aspenco last year 🎣

While fly fishing is traditionally a male dominated sport, women now make up around 30-35% of the demographic 🙌🏼

I learned to fly fish in September 2021. I’ve gone a decent amount, with an ex or friends, but I’m still a beginner, so it’s always nice to have a guide.

@raydnoffrio was a fantastic guide and all around great guy! He was able to give me some really good pointers and I finally got the hang of mending my line and roll casting. I’m not sure why that took so long to click, but fly fishing is not the easiest sport, and I feel like you’re always learning something new. However, it’s one of the most peaceful activities. I’m always shocked by how quickly hours pass on the river.

The river was stunning this time of year with all of the golden yellow leaves and red foliage tucked among the few specks of green.

Tamara got incredible photos of this trip. The last couple of slides are mine - which is pretty obvious due to the difference in quality 😅

Here are some best practices to keep in mind when you’re fishing in the Roaring Fork Valley:
• Make a plan of where you’re going to fish
• Follow all Leave No Trace principles
• Check in with a local fly shop to see what the fish are eating
• Understand fishing regulations (fishing license requirements, if you’re in a catch and release only area, barbless fly regulations, etc)
• Don’t trespass (landowners often own the riverbed in Colorado)
• Bring the proper gear (polarized sunglasses, layers, sunscreen, water, snacks)
• Respect other anglers on the water
• Follow good fishing and handling etiquette (trout are fragile)
• Tag locations responsibly
