Love a beautiful home that actually works for you and your family? Same.

I’m Courtney, founder of Assembly Interiors on the Mornington Peninsula. I design kitchens, bathrooms and whole-home renovations with smart joinery, considered hard finishes and a sustainable, down-to-earth approach. Think calm, practical, quietly interesting with a nod to an Australian aesthetic.

Interior design is a puzzle and I draw on my extensive experience to skilfully piece together harmonious and functional living environments.

Clients work with me because I take the reins: clear process, builder-ready documentation, decisive recommendations, and no ā€œendless Pinterest spiral.ā€ I’m obsessed with the details - cabinetry lines, storage rhythms, lighting layers, so you can get on with life (and still love your home).

When we design your home, we start with how you live now and where you’re headed. Homes should evolve with us and still hold up for decades - future-focused, not faddish.

I’m committed to sustainability and encourage an ethical, eco-friendly renovation, treading lightly on this beautiful land we get to call home.

If 2026 is your year to finally sort the reno, start here. DM ā€œSTARTā€ or hit the link in bio to book a discovery call. taken in Mornington Peninsula by @assembly_interiors

Hello there!

I’m Courtney, face behind Assembly Interiors.

I’ve been passionate about interior design and homes my whole life, and have spent the last few years sharing that passion through helping people transform their homes with purposeful, considered design.

The name of my business reflects its core philosophy. To ā€œassembleā€ signifies both putting together the elements of a project and uniting people with a shared vision. That’s precisely what I excel at!

Interior design is like a puzzle, and I draw on my extensive experience to skillfully craft harmonious spaces. A beautiful, functional, and cohesive environment relies on both the design itself and the collaborative effort of a dedicated team to bring it to life.

I’ve always considered myself like a drummer in the band - I don’t want the limelight like a lead singer (that spotlight is clearly on you and your home!) but without me I guarantee you’d be completely lost. I keep the steady beat and make sure all the moving parts are in sync - working seamlessly to alleviate the stress and overwhelm from your shoulders.

When designing your home, I work closely with you to understand how you want to live and what’s important to you. Our homes should evolve alongside us as our lives change, while also being future-focused to ensure they endure for generations.

I’m committed to sustainability and encourage my clients to embrace an ethical and eco-friendly approach to their home renovation, treading lightly on this beautiful land we get to call home.

On a personal note, I’m a mum to my wonderful daughter, cat lover, food and travel obsessed. My love for good design and experience flows through everything I do.

I’m excited for what 2025 holds, reach out if you’d like to discuss your own renovation plans, and let’s make some magic together! ✨ taken in Mornington Peninsula by @assembly_interiors

✨ New Year / New Interiors ✨

Instead of the usual ā€œwhat’s trendingā€ list, I’ve pulled together the design directions I want to see in 2026. Think playful tile patterns, bold stone, coloured cabinetry with depth, layered lighting, and homes that are as functional as they are beautiful.

Because the truth is, great design isn’t about what’s in. It’s about what feels right for you and will last the distance.

Curious? Head to the blog for my full 2026 trend list (link in bio). taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @assembly_interiors

There are some projects that steal your heart. Dana House is that project šŸ¤

Currently at tender stage, I literally CANNOT wait to see this transformation come to life.

Getting here wasn’t easy. A beautiful, original 1965 home with owners who want to have some fun. A lot of work, drawing, designing, sourcing, modifying. The result, a gorgeous reinterpretation of this home and the kind of collaboration I love.

Playful, American mid century nods, set against an Australian aesthetic, with subtle structural changes to improve flow for modern living whilst being sympathetic to the original architecture.

If you’re renovating, these are the three things I’d spend time getting right before worrying too much about the pretty stuff.

1. The floor plan. A renovation should make your home work better, not simply look different. Get the flow right, and everything well....flows!

2. Custom joinery. From kitchens, laundries, living spaces and bedrooms, good joinery can completely change how you use your home. Made specifically for you, your routines and your stuff.

3. Lighting. Because your home needs to work at 8am, 5pm and 10pm - and a grid of downlights isn’t cutting it. Layered, strategic (hello chin hairs), dimmable, multiple switches...you can thank me later.

There are plenty of other things that matter, obviously. But get these three right and you’ve got a very good foundation.

And then we can get onto the fun stuff. taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @assembly_interiors

Sometimes the best renovation is the one that gets smaller.

Barcelona House is a cosy, 100-year-old home that had already been extended once and was home to a family whose needs were changing.

With two university-aged children still at home, the brief was to create a little more space and privacy for everyone - while keeping the house feeling like itself.

The original plan was for a second-storey extension. But as the project developed, we questioned what the family actually needed, rather than simply adding more space.
The result was a much more modest 38m² extension containing a new main bedroom, ensuite and a small snug - affectionately known as the ā€œadult wingā€.

This also created the opportunity to open up the existing kitchen and dining areas, creating a much more generous connection between the kitchen and the living spaces.

The smaller footprint meant a simpler build, a more focused budget and, ultimately, a house that works harder for the family without losing the scale and character that made them fall in love with it in the first place.

More space wasn’t necessarily the answer. Better space was.

A little project I’ve been quietly working on is finally out in the world.

Behind the scenes I’ve been working on a new Assembly Interiors website - refining the way I talk about the studio, the projects we take on and, most importantly, how we approach design.

With the incredible help of @gooddenimcreative , it’s now ready to be shared.

It feels like a much better reflection of where Assembly is now. More considered. More focused. And hopefully a little easier to navigate if you’re thinking about renovating and aren’t quite sure where to start.

You’ll find our latest projects, the services we offer and a little more about how I work with clients across the Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne and beyond.

So, after many rounds of tweaking, moving things approximately three pixels to the left and questioning every single word...(thanks again Shanie, you patient lady)….it’s live!

Have a look around, I’d love to know what you think✨ taken in Mornington Peninsula by @assembly_interiors

Furry friends are well catered for at our Graham House project 🐱

A cat flap in the new pantry will lead to a secure cat run, meaning our kitty pals can enjoy the sun…safely!

And yes, I’m late to the trend. Might delete later šŸ™Š by @assembly_interiors

A bathroom with a point of view.

We could have easily played it safe. Large format tiles, your standard oak vanity.

Instead, a bathroom that feels one of a kind, considered and definitely not cookie cutter.

A bold marble floor that does the talking, walnut timber joinery, terracotta detailing and an arched mirror to soften the geometry.

Very much designed for the people who live here.

Before the finished renovation photos comes the work people don’t see.

Weeks spent planning, researching, refining and balancing to get the best result for the client, their home and their budget.

Here’s a snippet of the messy middle you don’t normally see.

✨Initial functionality and elevation plotting.
✨Fit for purpose material selections.
✨Modelling and testing.
✨Finished renders to give the client confidence and understanding of their space.

A plethora of decisions made behind the scenes to make your house feel like home.

This is the stuff I obsess over, so you don’t have to.

Save this one if a kitchen renovation is on the horizon. taken in Mornington Peninsula by @assembly_interiors

The outcome of a 2 hour design session yesterday ✨

These clients came to me mid-build. The direction is largely set, but nerves were starting to surface with locking in final finishes selections.

Here’s what we solved -
āœ… Flooring selections and transitions resolved. A beautiful mixture of cork, micro cement and carpet
āœ… Kitchen cabinetry refined - confirm timber veneer, adjusted laminate colour, determined profiles and edge profiles, discussed stone options and preferences
āœ… Looked at overall structural finishes - windows, ply ceiling details, timber wall panelling, fireplace detailing
āœ… Adjusted laundry finishes across cabinetry, tiles and grout
āœ… Fine tuned the ensuite - layout and storage, lighting and finishes
āœ… Considered the flow on effect to window treatments, electrical and lighting

Worth the time and money?

Absolutely.

Clients are now armed with finishes they know will work, suppliers to approach and a newly found confidence in the next steps of their build. taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @assembly_interiors
