It was a fantastic weekend at @artnowfineartfair in Saskatoon.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, spent time with the work, and made it such a great weekend. We loved being part of Saskatchewan’s fine art fair and bringing a selection of work from the gallery to Saskatoon.

DAVID GARNEAU | ART IS MY BUFFALO

Coming September 17, David Garneau presents “Art Is My Buffalo”, a new exhibition at Assiniboia Gallery.

Garneau’s still life paintings use familiar objects as visual metaphors, suggesting relationships, Indigenous knowledge and Métis experience. Rather than presenting literal scenes, the works offer glimpses for viewers to interpret and complete for themselves.

Our relationship with Torrie Ironstar began last October when we had the pleasure of featuring his work as our stART artist at Art Now. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of getting to know Torrie, his artistic practice, and the stories woven into each of his incredible works.

A contemporary Indigenous artist from Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, Torrie works in acrylic and mixed media, creating bold compositions rich with colour, texture, and symbolism. Rooted in his cultural heritage, his work explores identity, resilience, and connection to land—inviting viewers to experience stories through a uniquely visual language.

As a Deaf artist, Torrie’s perspective has shaped the way he experiences and expresses the world around him. His artwork reminds us that creativity transcends words, and that meaningful connection can be found through shared experiences, stories, and a passion for art.

We are honoured to represent Torrie and look forward to sharing more of his incredible work this fall.

Where original art meets custom craftsmanship.

Hand crafted by Michael Rankin, this white oak frame is a work of art in and of itself. With the help of @chrismurraycustom, Michael was able to apply the same finish used for the gorgeous millwork featured throughout the main floor’s foyer and kitchen.

All in all this was a team effort that produced a dream result for a client who has poured her heart into every detail of their new family home 🤍

A huge thank you to the incredible Nicki Ault for creating a piece that will be enjoyed and cherished for years to come. by @assiniboiaart

The prairie has a language all its own—written in shifting skies, weathered roads, open horizons, and quiet moments that often go unnoticed unless we are still enough to appreciate them.

A collection of work by 17 of our wonderful artists who observe the landscape with curiosity and care, “Field Notes” offers beautiful variety and interpretation of the places that shape us.

From dramatic summer storms to peaceful twilight skies, these pieces remind us that the prairie is never still.

Knitters Talk

Available at @assiniboiaart as a part of the group show ‘Westward’, the Regina Gallery’s feature exhibition of BC artists. The show runs to the end of the month.

It was fun to figure out and paint the houndstooth pattern in the upper, I love fashion and textile art and have tried different ways to work it into my paintings over the years. I’ve used the title ‘Knitters Talk’ to possibly describe one of the ways news (and gossip) travels in a small town, but also the way textile arts have historically offered a space for women to work together and connect with each other. 💙 taken in Assiniboia Gallery by @assiniboiaart
