For 49 years we have been helping customers fall in love with Canadian art.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It was freeing to experience such wide open spaces during my time in the country. It was also intimidating.

Looking out to the horizon towards land that went on without seeming limit brought up big feelings of hope and possibility. You feel like anything can happen! But with that you also realize.... anything can happen. There were tiny moments where the isolation and exposure felt unsettling.

I got 7 small paintings started! I mainly used my oils because acrylics dry so quickly when painting en plein air. I had to find shady places to set up because the targeted therapy drug I'm on causes sun sensitivity. Honestly the weather worked perfectly in my favour. It was sunny and warm and the wind only came on my last day.

I'm officially on the home stretch to my solo show next month and excited to get final ideas down on canvas.

This painting and its title acknowledge the lighter moments we all need to find these days; the need for the deep intake of air to our lungs, the slowing down of it all, the open spaces where we can breathe and find beauty.

Please pause your scroll, look at this image, breathe in and out, in and out, and feel the peace and possibility I painted for you 🙏✨️

Last August we had the chance to visit my brother Nicolas and my sister-in-law Cindy at their fishing camp in Northern Saskatchewan on Amisk Lake.

On the last day, my brother took me, my husband and the kids fishing and it was AMAZING! The lake was super calm and the sun was shining and needless to say that I took a bunch of reference image while my family got their share of fish from the lake!

From that trip, I have created three paintings and two of them are being shown at Assiniboia Gallery in Regina as part of the show titled 'This Way, That Way'

This is the first one:
'Mesmerizing reflections on Amisk Lake' 36x72" oil on canvas

Huge thanks to Nick and Cindy for their hospitality!

Artnow is a yearly art fair including a range of galleries from across Saskatchewan. It is held in alternatively Regina and Saskatoon and this year Assiniboia Gallery had to haul 60 paintings to Saskatoon to show what their roster is capable of.

The result was quite impressive with the caliber of what was shown and I was proud to be part of the show.

I always try to create something different for this fair and these two pieces are part of what I have shown.

This how I usually feel 🫩. Grief and the "C" word ain't no cake walk. BUT... ➡️

THIS is how I felt at Art Now ❤️‍🔥!!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see me and/or my art over the weekend. Thank you for filling my cup - it runneth over 🙌.

Huge props to the team at @assiniboiaart for the beautiful hanging of my preview show "Prelude" and for offering the space for this feature. It was an honour and I'm grateful. I'm fired up to complete the painting plan for next month's solo show.

This is one of my favorite paintings from my up and coming solo exhibition at the Assiniboia gallery.
You might ask why it would be a favorite. I think because this one started out as a feeling that I wanted to capture. I wanted to reveal the heart of me, which is no easy task. For fellow painters out there, you know that it is easier to paint from an existing photograph or to recreate something you have done before. It is a real challenge to create something from your mind without knowing the end result. It's always a gamble and can be a waste of time if the painting does not work out or does not capture what you intended. I think that paintings should say more than words ever could. That is why it is hard for me to explain what I do.
Many years ago, as an artist, I focused solely on capturing nature, specifically trees, in their natural state. Within the last ten years, I have slowly incorporated structures within those environments. I like that this painting harkens back to my earlier days of soft dreamy treed landscapes, with my newer focus on Prairie Icons, such as our provinces grain elevators. It is a heartfelt mixture of the two. Simply put, it reveals my love of our natural world and my love of growing up on a farm.
