Butter-Milky Way Bend 🪻🌌

A panorama spanning nearly 360° of the Buttermilk Bend trail, encompassing a full night with the setting winter Milky Way arch captured shortly after sunset and the rising summer Milky Way arch just before sunrise.

Perhaps my most technically challenging photo yet.

There’s only a small window of time every year where a double arch panorama is possible. After my first go a couple nights prior and still craving a more epic foreground, I hiked out to this spot along the South Yuba River to scope the lupine bloom after the @nccameraclub group chat was popping off about its early arrival. While not as dense as previous years from our lackluster wet season, and despite the threat of impending clouds after 3am, I felt inspired enough to try to capture it anyway given it was the last night with the moon phase I could pull it off while the bloom was around.

Utah’s weathered sandstone looks even more surreal under the Milky Way — carved by nothing more than time, water, and a whole lot of patience. 🌌✨

Sitting in this cave, you can almost feel how the river shaped every curve and cliff. And yes… sitting behind a waterfall for the “perfect” shot sounded romantic until I realized I was basically getting slow-motion bucket-dumped the whole time. 😅💦

When it was time for bed, the stargazing didn’t stop there — only a 10 minute drive back to our home base at @clearskyresorts that provided unobstructed panoramic views of the light show. Thank you for making Movies Under the Pines so magical!

Eleven years of the most exceptional outdoor cinema in the county. Eleven years of fun, laughter, and movies with the people you love most. There is nothing quite like it - the simple pleasure of a night under the stars with your community, a great film, and someone absolutely shredding an invisible guitar solo like their life depends on it (we're talking about you Valencia!)

We are so grateful for every single one of you who showed up, spread out a blanket, and made this night what it is.

Now onward. The Nevada City Film Festival is TWO WEEKS AWAY. 🎬 See you there.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

I brought this concept months ago to my fav fire performer and homie @motoast of lighting up the snow covered train tunnels under the winter arch. With clear skies forecasted the day after my birthday, conditions lined up that we could finally bring it to life. What a gift 🎁

Now this guy said he was going to make some BIG sparks. Boy, did he deliver. 🔥🧨✨

This mofo welded and built out the most legit steel wool setup I’ve ever seen.

I shot 13 NIGHTS of astrophotography this March, a new personal record! Between 8 nights with Orion, 2 nights of Milky Way core, 2 double arches, and a lunar eclipse, yo’ gurl has been busy this month. Of course, no Milky Way marathon would be complete without visiting the Yuba River.

Sangre y Oro

On 3/3 at 3:33am I got a front row seat to the premiere of earths shadow above the @delorotheatre projected on the moon in IMAX

Who else watched the lunar eclipse?

🌒🌑🌘

The third shot is a composite from my timelapses spanning an hour from 3-4AM, showing the phases of totality, with the peak at exactly 3:33am.

I cropped off the bottom half of the sign since some of the lights were out. I could always come back and shoot it again in 2029 :)
