Welcome new and longtime friends! It’s been awhile since I reintroduced myself. And with my solar return just around the corner, it feels like a good time. So hello! I’m Catherine. I’ve been obsessed with astrology since middle school, but have been identifying as an astrologer for the past 16 years. My fascination has taken me everywhere from evolutionary, to psychological, Hellenistic, Medieval and renaissance; from natal and predictive to horary and electional — and weirdly full circle to Ptolemy’s delineations of the soul!

Spirituality: the Creator/Creatrix lives in all things. I guess this makes me an animist. Astrology helps me understand the times and understand others. I have been practicing meditation for 18 years, but don’t have as much time these days as a parent of young kids. I also practice planetary magic and devotion and do my best to be a kind and empathetic human.

Parenting advice? Sloooow down. Listen. Discuss feelings. Apologize when you mess up. Not everyday is going to be perfect, but as long as they know they are loved, that’s the most important thing 🧡
.
Advice to aspiring astrologers: borrowing from Abu Ma’shar: you do not have to know everything (you never will!) so wholeheartedly practice what you know. You will still be able to help others!

When I think about the constructs of time, and how we organize it, the Sun, Moon and the planets are the basis. We are living in a cosmic clock!

Each of the 7 days of the week are named for the 7 traditional planets. There are some very easy ways you can honor and align with the planets, simply by tapping into their symbolism on their corresponding days. This is also a real useful model to help you organize your week! 🌙🪐

The Moon enters the sphere of the Sun on 10/10/26 at 17°21’ Libra. Ruled by a retrograde Venus in Scorpio, this lunation compells us toward our unrealized desires. On one hand, we can become more easily enamored, and on the other, we can be increasingly repelled by what turns us off. With Venus in Scorpio, we crave intensity: an experience which takes us to our edge of delight and risk.

The new moon occurs within the second decan of Libra, Saturn’s domain. Saturn exalts in Libra because we need a semblance of order for harmony to thrive. When expectations are clear, we minimize potential for disappointment and harm. Saturn’s exaltation in Libra explains our social mores, standards of social decorum and essentially how to respect one another. This ordering is ideally supposed to offer protection, but *to whom?*

When I tell my children not to speak certain words or topics, why is it that they seem to only utter these forbidden words *more?*

The FULL MOON IN ARIES arrives on 9/26/26 at 3°37’ Aries. Conjunct Neptune, this is a full moon of mystery, unknowns, delulu, and perchance a macrodose of magic and whirlwind enchantment.
Aries is a passionate and swift sign. Moved by gut impulse and inspiration, Aries wastes no time mapping it out. “Intuitive GPS will get me there.”
With Neptune, however, we must be mindful we aren’t outpacing our ability to detect the signs…

This lunation occurs within the first decan of Aries, a decan of ferocity, courage, strength, and the desire to conquer the world. Mars undeniably rules this decan, but also the Aries Full Moon itself.

Mars is at 29° Cancer, a fiercely protective, defensive but also reactive place for Mars. Here, Mars has a hard time being strategic about its aims, responding to threats instead of directing.

The corresponding tarot card for this decan is the 2 of wands, depicting an image of a man staring out into a landscape of potential. Holding a globe in his hands, he thinks about the world he can conquer and/or create.

UAC 2026! My heart is so full from spending 4 full days with astrologers! Something I never take for granted is the gift of sharing space with others who speak your language— and not just astrology, but mediumship, tarot, magic and psychic dreams. As I sit with the message of the New Moon in the 2nd decan of Virgo, I’m reminded that few access the door of occult knowledge. As astrologers, we are often playing chess in social situations: “do I reveal myself or not?” We are often challenged and confronted with questions regarding our love of astrology:
- “do you really believe in that?”
- “NASA told me my sign is wrong.”
- “ghosts? sure. Whatever u say lol”

Sharing space with astrologers reminds me of a vital thread of belonging — like a celestial saline drip — which has been so affirming to cultivate over the years. To exchange in this language of astrology with others nourishes my spiritual life force.

I reconnected with several of my primary teachers this weekend @josephaddeoastrologer @meirabe01 @johnmarchesella as well as several of my students. Witnessing the living, breathing lineage in real time is truly a blessing to behold.
.
As a community, we entered into this sacred space on the heels of an eclipse. Despite being unified through our love and language of astrology, divisions are still present. Calls for unity are undermined by the perpetuation of divisive imagery and a distinctive deficiency of repair. As astrologers, we are in the business of humanity. Building basic ethical skillsets and maintaining compassion is the bare minimum of our role. When we fail to exhibit such intuitive care, how can others entrust us with their stories and their lives? Another thing to be cautious of is the temptation to pedestal: we are human. None of us are perfect. We are not all knowing. We will trip and fall, but hopefully we can each continue to learn and grow.

All of that said, the UAC team was phenomenal. None of this would be possible without their care, devotion, labor and attentiveness. Grateful to all of the staff and volunteers and to the hotel for putting up with us all week! Til next time, Chicago!

We have before us a New Moon at 18°25’ Virgo, representing the portal transitioning us *away* from eclipse season. Now, the dust settles and we can begin to acclimate and integrate all of the revelations and shifts. Allegedly, another new normal.

Yet, on the same day as the New Moon (9/10 or 9/11 depending upon your whereabouts), Uranus stations retrograde at 5°41’ Gemini, renewing our licensure for unexpected twists, startling insights, upheaval, sudden pivots and best of all, liberation.
.
We often feel Uranus’s station in our own bodies, riding the spectrum of energetic stimulation which can galvanize or make anxious. If you are feeling this at all, the key is to move. Go for a walk, ideally somewhere in nature, where you can move the energy and strive to identify the bigger elements in your life which are ready to move too.
.
We will also see Uranus’ station stir up the 8-year Uranus in Gemini story (2025-2033). We’ve got our eyes on tech, education, transport and social media, but most importantly AI and (with Pluto in Aquarius) flock cameras. Robots are beginning to develop their own languages and fight back when pushed; idk about you, but this feels … foreboding. Uranus may bring important information about these rapidly developing industries which can help us maintain agency (and humanity) in the Age of Air.

The incoming lunar eclipse occurs at 4°54’ Pisces — the degree of the Royal Star, Fomalhaut. Fomalhaut translates to “from the fish’s mouth” and is associated with divine messages, the mystical unseen, otherworldly inspiration, magic and enchantment. Fish live underwater, an entire universe we have yet to fully explore. The ocean represents hidden and enchanted realms and mysterious power.
.
The Royal Stars watch over the four corners of the universe. Fomalhaut is considered to be the Watcher of the South, and is associated with Archangel Gabriel, divine messenger, often associated with children and creative expression. “From the fish’s mouth” infers divine inspiration or divine power.
.
This section of the sky is incredibly spiritual, visionary and romantic. The first decan of Pisces corresponds with the 8 of cups— a figure departs from 8 *upright* cups, representing the bounty received or accumulated, or the life they have built. The figure departs from this world in search of the unknown. The night sky infers that this journey is subjective, personal, even solitary, but the Moon (soul) oversees. This is the spiritual awakening or the dark night of the soul.
.
This decan is ruled by Saturn, suggesting that at some point in our lives, it becomes a necessity to cultivate a spiritual foundation of some sort. At some point, the material world will fail to offer support. From there, we turn inward and perhaps upward, seeking affirmation and connection with some sort of higher paradigm.
.
The eclipse on this point may serve as a catalyst in this direction. A wake-up call. A spiritual awakening or a shattering of the current spiritual paradigm. Uranus invites an upgrade we didn’t know we needed. Perhaps we have outgrown certain frameworks or practices which have lost their spark. Spiritual connection is nourished by heart, after all.…

This has been living rent free in my head for the past couple weeks 😂 learned how to hand calculate charts in 2014 from Julene Louis and have taught dozens of people since.
.
Chart calculation can be intimidating at first, but the math is fairly simple once you know where to look. While you need not be a math whiz to calculate charts in the modern era, learning how to calculate by hand will offer you so much respect for your lineage, as well as a better understanding of the cosmic tools you use on a regular basis. Highly recommend learning at some point!
