DeepSpace-2 preflight testing continues! Each of our thrusters has its own gimbal in order to manage angular momentum, generate required torques, and hold stable through days-long burns. Next up, we’re conducting a gimbal vibration test to ensure they can survive launch loads. by @astroforge.io

Full test success!

Our team verified nominal operation of the thruster with our avionics and flight hardware at all planned power levels. We also successfully fired the thruster while gimbaling. Thanks to @theaerospacecorporation lab for hosting us for this test series. by @astroforge.io

More data, more better.

Our team is back at it with additional hot fire testing of our Hall effect thrusters to burn down as much risk as we can ahead of DeepSpace-2’s launch later this year. by @astroforge.io

All too often we hear the same refrain: why spend time and money on anything in space when we have problems here on Earth?

This, we know, is a false dilemma. We can fix problems on Earth AND explore the cosmos. In fact, spaceflight has repeatedly benefited the people of Earth - in ways large and small.

To put this tired argument to bed, we’ll name just a few: GPS, weather forecasting that annually saves thousands of lives, satellite imagery that guides relief efforts within hours of a disaster, high speed internet in historically under or unserved areas, heart pumps keeping cardiac patients alive, cochlear implants that give people the gift of hearing, even the cameras in your smartphone!

All of these things trace their lineage directly to space research.

We know that spaceflight benefits the lives of the people of planet Earth. It is not up for debate; it’s merely a matter of how much benefit we as a people want to go for. How hard do we want to swing? Mining asteroids is certainly a hard swing, and one we work every day to make a reality. by @astroforge.io

Thanks to our advisor Dr. Dante Lauretta, Principal Investigator of the @nasa @osiris_rex mission, for coming out to AstroForge HQ to our employees about what to expect when we attempt our asteroid rendezvous and landing (expect the unexpected!) by @astroforge.io

This test campaign goes to 11. DeepSpace-2 has large, flat, and lightweight solar panels which can amplify acoustic energy, so we blasted this test article with intense sound waves to ensure it will survive launch (it passed!). The next Gold Rush? It’s in orbit.

Platinum group metals: they’re the entire reason we’re going for asteroids in space. 🔭

It fits in your palm, but it’s enough to power hundreds of devices and save lives.

Platinum group metals are absurdly powerful, even in tiny amounts. They make your tech faster, your car cleaner, and your cancer treatment possible.

And yet… we’re destroying the Earth to get them.

What if there was a better way? 🤔

Critical materials are getting harder to find on Earth. Good thing space is full of them!

Here’s a brief crash course on asteroids and why we’re all-in on mining them. ☄️🧐

Space rocks… literally 🪨🤘🌌

Billions of years ago, these asteroid bits were parts of planets that never made it. Now, they could fuel the technologies that shape ours.
