Looking for a 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 of gaming history that is both legendary and completely broken?

𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 for the 𝐀𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐕𝐂𝐒, released in 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟗, holds the title of the very 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨 video game ever made.

On one hand, it was incredibly 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 of its time, featuring a massive open-ended world, multiple screens, and even the iconic phone booth to transform Clark Kent into the Man of Steel.

You fly around Metropolis, capture Lex Luthor’s henchmen, repair a blown-up bridge piece by piece, and fly back to the Daily Planet.

But let’s be completely 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭: the game is an absolute 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬 by today's standards.

Because of the extreme hardware limitations of the Atari 2600, Metropolis looks like a 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜 maze of flashing, glitchy blocks, and the gameplay mechanics are pure jank.

The collision detection is so unpredictable and the AI is so erratic that the experience can feel incredibly unfair and frustrating.

Yet, despite this janky nature, the game is 𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭.

Once you actually figure out the confusing layout and where the bridge pieces are, you can beat the entire game in under five minutes.

It is a fascinating, broken masterpiece that proves you don’t need good code to save the world!

Perché questi oggetti continuano a farci giocare, conoscere persone e raccontare storie.

I still remember my little sister playing this on her Game Boy Advance. She wouldn't put it down. 🎮

I got curious, asked her what she was playing. She handed me the console and said, "Just try it."

I did. And I got it. The animation. The colors. The way it felt. She was right — it was something special.

Twenty-four years later, I'm still thinking about it. Some games just stay with you.

What's a game you discovered through someone else? 👇

Some studios ask for permission. Data East just went ahead and made their own James Bond game anyway. 🕵️

A secret agent. A golden gun. A villain with a metal jaw. Sound familiar? It should, this is a Bond film in everything but name, and it's absolutely unapologetic about it.

No license. No problem. 🎮🔥

Another Famiclone, another story. Meet the Micro Roadstar. 🎮

Two things are infinite: the universe and Famiclones. And I'm not sure about the universe. 😄

#Famiclone + #everdrive combo ASMR by our friend @pierinolartista, just because someone thought that yesterday pic was an AI slop. Good thing it's true, and good thing that Megadrive-shaped clones were the school of art of many italian gamers back in the 90s. #gamesofthe90s by @atari_magari
