Finished transforming the gallery into an artist’s workshop again for Liza’s portrait painting class. She will be teaching every other month at the gallery. If you’re interested in her classes DM, or get in touch with her to know more @liza.sokolovskaya I have plans to offer some fun narrative art/self portraiture workshops, drawing classes and a life drawing session, so if you’re interested in any of those, send me a message. Two monotypes that are included in Petit et intime at my new gallery @atelier.531, on view til 6pm today, it’s the last day of the show. The next show will open in November! A four person painting show on the figure. These monotypes are drawn from stories from a book on Lilith and Jewish folklore I’ve been reading. The one on the left is from a tale of a man who was meant to marry the next day cavorting drunk throwing the woods with his friends and the wedding ring intended for his fiancée. He finds a finger coming out of a tree and puts a ring on it as a joke and finds himself accidentally wed to a demoness. Eventually a deal is worked out with the rabbis where he can marry his betrothed, but he has to spend one night a month with the demoness to abide by their contract of marriage. For the monotype on the right the story is similar but the hand belonged to a corpse who was a young woman who died unmarried. The corpse came to life and was very keen. I wanted to highlight the work of two excellent abstract painters in Petit et intime today. Tiffany April, of Ottawa, and Montreal artist Frank Caracciolo. I was unfamiliar with their work until we did our open call, it's always a pleasure to become introduced to new work. We had three photographers participate in Petit et Intime 2. Mathilde Bois who photographs assemblages she creates. NYC photographer Jeffrey Davison who relocated to Montreal a few years ago explores the city and his photographs sometimes look like abstractions when viewed up close.
