HAPPY FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH!

TAYO NA!

I am so proud of this tour, of this community, of this space.

As for language around how I identify myself with in this community, I like to say that I am an American born filipina. For me its feel like honoring that my parents are both filipino, as well as being born and raised in the United States.

There is space for all of us and our intersectional identities. We are all filipino enough.

Isang bagask!

Please follow along the rest of the month as we highlight other creators in the filipino american community!

ALLOW ME TO REINTRODUCE MYSELF

Hi Everyone, I'm Marcela! There have been a few new people finding my page so I just wanted to say hi again.

Also, I just wanted to make it clear what you can expect from me and my little corner of the internet. That being said, I'm learning and growing like all of you.

Hope we can connect! by @atemarcelareads__

Hey #FAHMBookstaTour it’s Celeste Dador and this debut author’s heart is full after participating in the Filipino American International Book Festival this weekend at the @sfpubliclibrary and meeting with authors and readers who inspire me.

This was my ultimate Filipino American experience, especially as we celebrate Filipino American History Month.

Ever since I could remember wandering the stacks of my childhood public library I loved books, and the idea of writing my own felt like an impossible dream. Growing up, I didn’t see characters who look like me, let alone authors. Fast forward decades later and now I’m on a panel with Fil Am authors, doing readings, and learning more about Fil Am history.

This photo of me and @mpmthewriter @tracybadua at the @mukundastudio is one of my favorite moments of the weekend. We were invited into a private workspace and saw a collection of historic photographs from the I-Hotel, representing a period of activism in the 1960s-70s for the Filipino American and housing advocacy community to stop the eviction of the hotel’s residents, many whom were Filipino seniors as the hotel was located in the Manilatown neighborhood of San Francisco.

Sitting in that room with creators I admire and surrounded by images of Filipino Americans who struggled for their rights was inspiring and filled me with pride, inspiration and determination to continue my art and do what I can to uplift the community and support the amazing people I met at the festival.

So yes… here’s some photos of people who inspired me this weekend! All of these talented creators contributing to this wonderful effort to #filtheshelves!

Cheers to everyone tagged here and my #fahmbookstatour co-posters @lizerne_ventura and @haaah_brand.com. And thank you @atemarcelareads__ and @filipinaauthorsbookclub for organizing this tour!

Queer Filipinos didn’t suddenly appear when representation became marketable 🇵🇭🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We were challenging exclusion and writing ourselves into history long before the hashtags.

For this year’s #FAHMBookstaTour, we’re reclaiming the stories history books overlooked 📚

💬 Which queer Filipino book or historical figure deserves more recognition?

Maraming salamat to @atemarcelareads__ and @filipinaauthorsbookclub for organizing this year’s tour! Check out @alamat_books and @jeanniecelestial for more FAHM Booksta Tour content today!

October is ✨Filipino American (Fil-Am) History Month✨

Filipino Americans make up the second largest Asian American group in the country and the third largest ethnic group in the state of California where most Filipinos reside (along with Hawaii). October was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first Filipinos who landed in Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587 and is also the birth month of Filipino American labor leader, Larry Itliong.

I am so honored to be a part of the #FAHMBookstaTour. Thank you to @atemarcelareads__ & @filipinaauthorsbookclub for letting me be a part of this tour. Check out @amyabutreads post today as well as everyone on the tour!

And to all the Filipinos around the world. Let's celebrate each other. We are all so fortunate because what an honor it is to be Filipino.
YOU ARE Filipino ENOUGH.

🇵🇭 Let's celebrate by amplifying Filipino American voices. Let's keep educating ourselves more about the rich culture and history Filipino Americans have.

📚 I hope you pick up some books by Fil-Am Authors this month! #filtheshelves

In 1904, the St. Louis featured a 47-acre Philippine Reservation presenting the Philippines to American audiences.

This Filipino American History Month, we wanna reflect on how our Filipino culture has been represented...and how Filipino writers continue to reclaim, preserve, and reimagine OUR stories.

Check @kwentitas 's post today for more book recs!

FORGOTTEN ISLAND WAS AMAZING

It was so crazy to see such an unapologetically filipino movie on the big screen.

The cultural references, the best friends, it was all so good. I cried (no surprise there)

Thank you @chaylakall @jkvli and @jness.wanders for seeing it with me! by @atemarcelareads__
