AT HER BEST had a more intimate and luxurious space for our annual event. 😍 Love Stories: In Pursuit of the Best, saw a dynamic panel of Black British singles and married couples boldly share their experiences of relationships, what works and what could be better. 👏🏾👏🏾 We loved their honesty and good banter. 😆
Now we're ready to practically apply everything, having understood that the inability to see God's best for us is due to lack of wisdom.
It's time to re-evaluate our choices. 🧐

We were very lucky to get a meaningful insight into the creative process of two established black writers who taught with charisma and clarity at our AHB event on Saturday.

It was an opportunity for the attending creatives from various ethnic backgrounds to connect and inspire each other through the sharing of personal and powerful stories with universal themes.

The study of writing tools like character building, conflict creation and the driving force of emotion was so useful. We shaped newly-developed storylines that were written on the day through productive exercise sessions. The different methods the writers taught in really complimented each other. Not just that, both writers are such amazing individuals and always happy to support.

Thank you to everyone that joined us! We hope you learned something valuable and had fun.

2. Excellent Character

Before you say "yes" 💍 and "I do," excellent character must be a non-negotiable. A man without character is like a luxury car with a broken engine—it may look impressive on the outside, but it won't take you anywhere. 🚗💨

Character isn't charisma. It's not the image he projects in public. It's who he is when no one is watching. Loyalty is proven when he has every option to compromise and still chooses to honour God and remain faithful. 🤍

Ladies, excellent character is consistent, and true consistency flows from a heart fully surrendered to God. That's the kind of foundation that lasts. ✨

1. The Fear of God.

Before you say "yes" and "I do," 👰🏽‍♀️ 💍 📖🤵🏽‍♂️ make this a non-negotiable.

A man who truly fears God doesn't just speak about faith, he allows it to shape his character, his decisions, and the way he loves, leads, and serves. His reverence for God becomes the foundation for how he treats his wife and family.

Only a man that has a reverencial fear of God can truly love and serve you.

From my early twenties to my late thirties, I said "no" more times than a football referee. 👋🏽 ‼️

No to pressure.

No to "he'll change."

No to "he loves me... sometimes."

No to almosts, maybes and good-enoughs.

People told me my standards were high — that once a woman turns 30 she can't afford to be too picky.

But I still chose to wait.

Why?

Because I had already decided that after making mistakes and planning more than one wedding, I'd better eat wedding cakes at everyone else's wedding than settle for a marriage God never intended for me.

So I waited.

Not perfectly, but prayerfully.

Then, in God's perfect timing, He orchestrated the meeting with my husband. When I finally met him, there was a peace in my heart. I knew God directed our steps.

Every "no" made room for the right "yes."

So never confuse waiting with wasting time. Sometimes God is writing a better story than the one you're trying to rush.

At 25 our parents were buying homes. 🏡
At 25 many people today are buying groceries carefully. 🛒💷🛍️

Same age.
Completely different economy. 📉

The timeline didn’t change because people became less ambitious.

The system changed.

So maybe the real conversation isn’t,
“why are young people behind?”

But…

“has the finish line moved?” 🏁
