happy fall!!

i really love september because wdym i got to go to the beach & apple picking all in the same month

i finished vicious 1 day into the beginning of october, so it's a shame i couldn't cound it for september but i can say i really loved it and i cannot wait to read book 2 of the series! i also found out book 3 is coming out this week, which is so exciting!

i started the audiobook for perfect victims by mohammed el-kurd just for him to say that there will be footnotes, so i decided to wait until i can get my hands on a physical or ebook copy to actually read it.

books you couldn't pay me to
• put down
• pick up
• shut up about
• reread

i had to join in on this trend! are there any books you agree with or disagree with from my list? let me know in the comments 🫶

#bookstagram #booksyoucouldntpaymeto #bookish #bookishchallenge #bookishtrend

books you couldn't pay me to put down
— i'm usually a slow reader so i finished these in a few days, and i was so invested i could not stop reading

• practice makes perfect by sarah adams
• book lovers by emily henry
• the deep by rivers solomon
• i'm glad my mom died by jennette mccurdy

#bookstagram #bookish #bookcommunity #bookishtrend #bookchallenge

books you couldn't pay me to pick up
— actually, any other books by these authors too while we're at it. my actual list of authors i won't read is way longer but i thought i'd pick my current top4. just in case i get asked why, here are non exhaustive explanations for each authors:

• jk rowling: i have never read harry potter but jkr is a massive transphobe and her influence is genuinely dangerous to trans lives. i don't care about nostalgia. i side eye anyone who still supports her or her books.

• sarah j maas: a known zionist & has used a black woman's death to promote her books. i see so many creators on bookstagram saying they are pro palestine while posting about her books and i think it's so gross.

• colleen hoover: romanticizes abusive relationships in her books, among other things. she also blocked the woman who was sexually harrassed by her son on social media, and i think that says a lot.

• hanya yanagihara: i will never read a little life both because i am not comfortable with its contents but also because i generally feel discomfort with the author's entire brand seemingly being torturing her gay characters to no end. also admits to not doing research about trauma victims + her views about therapy and content warnings are very questionable to me.

#problematicauthors #jkrowling #sarahjmaas #colleenhoover #alittlelife

books you couldn't pay me to shut up about
— i kind of wanted to put each book of tfota as a joke but i decided to stick with the wicked king only my beloved. i heavily recommend each of these books by @attemptedliteracy

why read a book called replay if it can't also be an excuse to use replay by shinee on your bookstagram reel

replay by ken grimwood is a scifi time travel / time loop story written in the 1980s. it gets so interesting as you read it, especially considering how new that subgenre still was back then! unfortunately, the ending didn't do it for me, which is why my rating fell to 3 stars.

i can see why other people might enjoy the ending more than i did, so i don't exactly not recommend it either, if that makes sense.

have you read this book or heard of it before?

GO WATCH THE DECAMERON

with that being said, here is my august wrap up!

as i mentioned previously, i'm slowly getting over my reading slump but i'm not quite there yet

i actually dnfed yesteryear in july but i didn't do a wrap up for that month so i added it here

vicious has been super interesting so far and i can't wait to read more of it!

august weather has been so good for me and i even got to have a little reading date with my gf this month (where she took this pic of me), i hope we can have another one in september<3

and yes this is a repost because instagram kept labelling it as ai content by mistake. i do not and will never use ai in my posts.

my last, current & next read!

last: replay by ken grimwood — other than the fact that it took me one billion years to finish it (not the book's fault), the story was pretty interesting. the ending was a bit underwhelming to me but i can get why other people enjoyed it more than i did.

current: vicious by v.e. schwab — the potential cure to my reading slump. that's still a wip but i'm really enjoying it so far and i'm only at page 80! this is my first time reading this author

next: the gulf by adam de souza — this is a graphic novel i've had on my tbr for a while now and my lovely gf got me a copy for my birthday this year. i can't wait to finally read it!

what's everyone reading lately? feel free to comment below with your last / current / next books 🫶

• reading the same book since april... but i finally finished it! i also read half of another one in june before dnfing. but i just started a new one that i'm really liking so we are soooo back
• spending time with my friends and girlfriend
• traveling to my home country this summer, which i'm so grateful i got to do! i saw family and friends and went to the gorgeous gorgeous beach there (as pictured)
• playing an embarrassing amount of palia on the switch

one more book off my physical tbr! and what a book!

their vicious games kept surprising me as i read it, and i mean that in the best way. it wasn't plot twists, not really, it was more about the direction the author decided to take with her characters especially her protagonist, as well as her political commentary/satire.

every single time i thought it was going in a direction i might not like, she proved me wrong. joelle wellington, i am SO sorry i ever doubted you for even a second.

i hope i can eventually write a review that can explain what i mean better, but for now these few sentences will have to do.

i really want to read this author's other books, i think i'll read the blonde dies first next time i'm in the mood for a ya thriller because it sounded so interesting!

also, i feel like this song, the outsider by marina (or like, most of the family jewels album, actually) fits the vibe of the book pretty well.

have you read their vicious games? if so, what did you think of it?

two books i acquired in april!

i got The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O'Neill in a book exchange with the silent book club in my area.
that adds a new book to my physical tbr because i got it by exchanging it with one i had already read but did not want on my shelves anymore (Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer).

the second one is House of Hollow by Krystel Sutherland, a book i have already read and loved a few years ago but did not own physically yet.
i somehow found it in a thrift store for $4 in excellent, like new, condition, which is insane to me!! i'm so happy i found it.
it's the kind of book that stays on your mind a lot after reading it, and because of that, i've been thinking of rereading it eventually, so this is perfect! the cover is absolutely 6, and i'm happy to add it to my personal library.

what's the title of the last book you bought/acquired? let me know in the comments 🫶

here is my (slightly late) april recap!

i only technically finished 1 book this month, but i really enjoyed their vicious games! i still need to write up a review for it

the tv adaptation for margo's got money troubles is so good so far, and i love how much they're developing certain aspects that weren't in the book. can't wait for more episodes to be released!

speaking of adaptations, me and my friend are planning on reading children of blood and bone soon. i've had this one on my tbr for so many years, and i'm so excited about the upcoming movie! did you guys see how insane the casting is?

strange pictures is a psychological thriller/horror novel accompanied by ominous illustrations.
each section of the book is a different story with new characters that progressively converge as puzzle pieces of a bigger mystery.

this was a very unique book, and it was definitely quick to read, too.

the writing style is simple, and the author really makes sure to break down plot points each time a part of the mystery gets explained, which can be a good thing if you're looking to read something you don't have to think about too much, but also a bit unnecessary for readers who prefer to solve things on their own.

i didn't mind it personally because i like it when mysteries are explained properly, but i still found paragraphs parts a bit redundant, and i did find myself confused about the timeline despite everything.
the twists are based in reality but do require you to suspend your belief a bit.

however, i still enjoyed my experience overall, and i definitely understand why people love the book, even if i didn't personally rate it higher.

happy easter to those who celebrate!

i recently finished strange pictures, which i owned a copy of, so welcome to episode 3 of my physical tbr series!

has anyone read uketsu's books and, if so, which one? let me know in the comments!

this was my first time reading a book by uketsu. i really liked the unique concept and the usage of illustrations within the mystery of the story! but i'm quite biased towards any book containing illustrations to be honest.

i really enjoyed reading the book overall, but i still only rated it 3.5 stars, and i plan on elaborating more on that in my review which i will hopefully post soon!
