We closed out our Summer Read-A-Loud series with Khadeidra Le Gendre and her book A Twin Like You.

It was a joy to see our young readers come together for one more story before the summer ended. Through this series, we’ve had the opportunity to introduce children to new books and authors while bringing families together around a shared love of reading.

One thing you learn very quickly as a twin parent is that people love to compare them.

Which one is the leader?
Which one is the quiet one?
Which one is the troublemaker?

But twins aren’t meant to live in comparison.

They may share a birthday, but they are still two completely different little people discovering the world in their own way.

When my sons were born, I realized there weren’t many books that reflected that truth.

So I decided to write the one I wished existed.

A Twin Like You is a story about individuality, connection, and the special bond twins share.

My heart! 🥹💛

My sweet godson was named Star Student of the Week at school! ⭐️ And when he got to choose a special book to bring to school, he picked A Twin Like You! 🥹📚

He’s not a twin, which makes this even sweeter to me. A little reminder that while this story celebrates twins, its message of individuality, love, and celebrating what makes us special belongs to every child. ❤️

So proud of my little superstar! And so touched that he chose a book written by his auntie. 🥰✨

Part 2 because apparently I had more to get off my chest. 😂😭

Before anyone calls CPS, this is all in good fun! A collection of parenting moments, exaggerated for comedic effect, not a play-by-play of one outing with my kids. 🤣

If your little one has ALL the feelings… this book might be for them! 😂❤️

Some days we’re happy, some days we’re frustrated, and sometimes we’re feeling everything at once (especially when you’re 3!).

One thing I’m learning as a mom is that before kids can manage their feelings, they need help recognizing and naming them.

The Feelings Book by Todd Parr is such a fun, colorful way to start those conversations. And I love that it reminds kids that all feelings are okay. 💛

We took the boys to the New York Aquarium, and my toddler-parent take: it’s a really manageable outing if your kids love animals but don’t have the stamina for an all-day activity 😂

A few things I’d want to know before going:
✨ The shark exhibit was the BIG hit for us.
✨ There’s enough to see to keep little ones moving without it feeling overwhelmingly huge.
✨ Weekends can get busy (and expensive) so I’d go earlier if you can.
✨ Give yourself permission to follow your toddler’s interests instead of trying to see everything. We spent much longer in some areas than others — and that was honestly the best part.

When we’re not reading together, this is such a big part of our world too: getting out, exploring NYC and finding experiences that meet the boys where their interests are. 🥹

If your child has a hard time sitting still for books but could talk about sea animals ALL day… start with this one. 🌊🐠

One thing I’m learning is that sometimes the goal isn’t getting kids to sit quietly and “pay attention”. It’s finding the thing that makes them want to engage.

For one of my boys, that’s ocean animals. 🐳 So a book like Zoom: Ocean Adventure gives him something familiar to connect with while we build attention, vocabulary, curiosity and a love of books along the way.

Sometimes their special interest is the doorway. 💙

Books give them a world to imagine.

And then we go outside and give them a world to experience. My boys peeled off their sweatshirts and traded them in for sprinklers, swings, and sunshine. Just two little boys soaking up the last warm days of the year.

More stories. More play. More childhood!
