Behind the scenes with Amy Sherald and @auc_artcollective

Students from the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective joined us for a tour and discussion of Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the High. These students are studying to be future curators, art historians, museum professionals, and artists. Housed within Spelman College, this innovative program aims to shape the future of the art world and be an incubator of African American professionals in these fields. by @auc_artcollective

Entering my senior year, I felt it was imperative to have new experiences within the art world, and that is exactly what Brandywine has offered me. During my summer, I dedicated many hours in the archives, which houses prints from artists I have dreamt of seeing. I curated my own exhibition, ‘Keith Morrison: A Peripatetic’s Confrontations’, received first-hand accounts and lessons from Brandywine’s founder
Allan Edmonds, created checklists and observed different printmaking techniques from master printers. Additionally, I managed the highschool Bloomberg Arts interns; educating them on relevant art history topics, aided in the planning of Brandywine’s exhibit at the upcoming Armory Show, helped with exhibition openings, created social media content, photographed events, visited many local art institutions and I even learned how to frame artwork for my exhibition! A highlight was traveling to Baltimore to speak with museum professionals and tour an artist’s studio. Overall, this experience has been beyond supportive of my aspirations, and every day has been a gift. I am excited to continue my internship through the school year. Thank you, Brandywine, for your ongoing support and for creating such a dynamic and special experience for me. by @auc_artcollective

Haeley has become an invaluable part of the Brandywine Workshop and Archives team. From her first days with us, she dove straight into our archives, quickly learning the organization’s history and collection. Beyond her contributions to the archives, she worked closely with our leadership team on every initiative this summer, bringing fresh insight and a current perspective to our work.

Watching her step into the role of curator, planning her own exhibition, and putting her academic knowledge into practice has been one of the highlights of the summer. Through her exhibition, she will remain part of our space long after she returns to Spelman. Haeley’s work ethic, ambition, and genuine enthusiasm for what she does are matched only by her willingness to jump in and help wherever needed. Her positive energy has brightened our days and made the work better for everyone around her. She has been a positive role model for our high school interns as well, giving them art history lessons and inspiring them to achieve and dream more. We are endlessly grateful to have been connected with her and look forward to seeing her growth in her very bright future. Happy National Intern Day Haeley!!!! by @auc_artcollective

The highlight of my Summer 2026 internship was gaining hands-on experience with archival research and digital preservation through the H-DAP project. Working with historical materials related to African Diaspora art and contributing to the documentation of HBCU collections helped me better understand the role museums play in preserving and sharing cultural histories. This experience strengthened my interest in exhibition coordination and provided valuable skills that will support my future career in the museum field. by @auc_artcollective
