POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I spent a week in London around Frieze with the AUC Art Collective, and I’m still processing all of it. We had rich conversations and experienced many conversations about patronage archives, and stewardship, and I reconnected with colleagues across the broader art community. Weeks like this remind me how much this work depends on building and sustaining relationships. I am grateful for every exchange.#spelmancollegeprofessor #curatorialpractice #friezelondon

💞Year 2 with the Atlanta Art Fair showcasing the work of Black women artists from Atlanta!

Co founders Lauren and Mia curated a booth featuring new works by Lillian Blades and Natrice Miller. Lillian’s series, emotional scapes, are small works in comparison to her larger installations based practice. A rare, collector ready opportunity.

Natrice Millers’ series, inherited terrain, mounted wood to amplify the visual of Black hairs connection to nature. These digital images and cyanotypes capture more than just hair, but our magic!

Missed the fair? SHOP the art online! LINK IN BIO✨

We appreciate the @auc_artcollective for being a resource and providing students to assist in the booth! Thank you to @artmarketproductions and @atlartfair for the opportunity to support Black women artists of Atlanta.

🙌🏽 Big thank you to our collectors and supporters who stopped by the booth! Especially Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens @andreforatlanta 🫶🏽

If you watched A Different World on Netflix, you may have noticed some of the architectural detail in episode one which was filmed, in part, in Arnett Hall where the Clark Atlanta Museum is located. The atrium outside of the gallery is the home to murals created by artist Hale Aspacio Woodruff who founded the art department.

Yesterday, Away with the Tides closed @spelmanmuseum . It was its last stop in a tour that started in 2024 @pamm then @brooksmuseum and @cummermuseum

It was such a beautiful moment to have one of its last programming events with the @auc_collective along side my BFF @asherald (who currently has her show up @highmuseumofart )

Thank you to everyone of you that came out to support #AwaywiththeTides and most importantly the incredible curators who made it happen. First and foremost the OG @martizamelania with the vision, @c.rosesmith @abbrownlee and last but not least @mizlizthebizwiz

A new exhibition is opening next week the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art: “Between Here & Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman College Art Collection”. (Just dawned on me--if we make it to Morehouse's Parents and Family Weekend, I can see it!!)

#hbcuartmuseums #hbcuartslegacy #supportthearts #spelmanmuseum30years

RP: @spelmanmuseum ✨New Exhibition Alert✨ The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art presents “Between Here & Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman College Art Collection,” an expansive exhibition featuring nearly seventy works by Black women artists who shape our permanent collection and define our mission. Beginning September 9, 2026, visitors to the Spelman College Museum will have opportunities to discover art and artists from the collection. The first exhibition to span both the museum’s galleries, this exhibition will open in two waves: at the Bank of America Gallery at the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation & the Arts, opening September 9, 2026, and in the gallery in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center on October 1, 2026. “Between Here & Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman College Art Collection” is grounded in dreaming and the Black feminist imagination, exploring ways of knowing, seeing, and creating shaped by Black women’s lived experiences. “Between Here & Infinity” presents artworks drawn from the permanent collection, organized by areas inspired by the layers of Earth’s atmosphere to gesture toward the vast and diverse qualities of the Black feminist imagination that shapes it. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Chaunesti Webb-Johnson, Curator of Collections at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, with Curatorial Graduate Assistant Lizette London, C’ 2017, and exhibition support from Jewell Green Design. Support for “Between Here and Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman College Collection” is provided by the Mellon Foundation, the Lauren Amos Foundation, the Paul R. Jones Heritage Fund of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, and the Friends of the Museum Fund. #SpelmanMuseum #SpelmanArchives #OnView #AtlantaArt

Behind the scenes with Amy Sherald and @auc_artcollective

Students from the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective joined us for a tour and discussion of Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the High. These students are studying to be future curators, art historians, museum professionals, and artists. Housed within Spelman College, this innovative program aims to shape the future of the art world and be an incubator of African American professionals in these fields.

AUC siblings, Artists Calida Rawles and Amy Sherald, were last together on campus to kick off “Black American Portraits.” The pair are back on Tuesday, September 1, for a special conversation and book signing celebrating the milestone of their concurrent solo exhibitions in Atlanta.

Now in their final days, you don’t want to miss these exhibitions or the conversation. See you Tuesday evening in Sisters Chapel; SCMFA will be open before and after the talk and will host the book signing.
