Influenced by the stories of Greek mythology, Cynical Beast transports the reader to a different time and place. Despite being a tale all its own, you can definitely feel the classical influence - from the terminology and Greek words and phrase to the references to lesser known, but equally important, gods. I was really impressed by the amount of research that must have gone into the book. You can tell that the author has a love of both the time period and the lore. The writing itself is lovely and descriptive. It’s easy to visualize exactly what the characters are seeing and going through. What they were thinking, feeling. I wasn’t being told a story, I was being shown. As a reader, I felt like I was transported to Thalyssia. It is an experience I will not soon forget. The story is much darker than I anticipated. There are secrets around every corner and cruel truths revealed. The trials are dangerous, but that is far from being the most deadly thing that our MC must face while on this path of hers. The cliffhanger is absolutely diabolical and I eagerly look forward to seeing what comes next! Thank you to @audreyoneira for the eARC. It's September and I have seen others spreading Awareness over that sensitive topic so I thought of joining tooπŸ’›πŸ™ I wanted to share my story. It is scattered across all four slides (It is a bit long I know hahahaπŸ’›πŸ˜…πŸ™ˆ) β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡β—‡ A few years ago, I was in a very bad place. At school, I felt casted out and seen as the weird 'french' girl that was rather spending time with her siblings during lunch time than with people her age. People made fun of me, because of my body, because of my way of being, because of anything that was 'weird' for them. But what they didn't try to understand was that I had been previously bullied at the school I had been before. I had lost most of my friends during that change in my life and finding myself in a new environment was tougher than I had thought. I never showed my fears and wounds. I always tried to act tough and full of joy although deep down I was exhausted. At home I fought with my family non stop. I slowly distanced myself and thought of running away multiple times but never had the guts to do anything. And then I met my abusive ex. At this time we were still kids (15 to 18 years). Yet the more I stayed with him, the more he took advantage of me. I had no self esteem and he made sure that it stayed that way. He insulted me and wasn't very loyal either. He would compare me to others and make me feel bad for not trusting him and wanting to control everything he did. The relationship was so toxic and I thought I couldn't get out of it. I had so many times thoughts of wanting to leave this earth. And when we fought and I would tell him that he would say horrible things like I deserved it etc. I was at my lowest with him and the worst was that I believed I only deserved this much love. And then after almost 3 years, he became physically abusive. With that, I finally had the courage to break it off. But despite all, the damage was done. I had no friends, no close connection to my own family, no self esteem etc. I wanted to give up so many times. But the only thing that kept me going was a conversation I had had with my little sister back when we were 13. She had told me of her fear of death and although I was by @audreyoneira
